Should there be a tornado warning in Sedgwick County this weekend, all 153 sirens will sound, just like they have for years. The county is not finished upgrading to a system that sets off sirens in specific areas. The county hopes to be finished with the million dollar project in the next few weeks. As always, sirens are warning devices are aimed at people outdoors and not those in houses.   Storm Team 12 can help you follow the storms no matter where you are headed.  We offer two different Apps for all of your weather needs.    Download the Storm Team 12 App for interactive radar and current conditions by zip code.  Also download the KWCH App, where you can watch streaming video of our Always On Storm Team 12   Weather Channel , channel 12.2.  There you can also send us your storm shots and receive weather alerts.  The   Apps are free to download   for i-Phone, i-Pad and Android.    If you don't have a smart phone,   Text Me 12   can also alert you to storms.

Students at Reno Valley Middle School in South Hutchinson were given iPads by the school district. They not only do research for classes on them, they're also doing their homework on them too. In one call Wednesday, students were designing a presentation about the September 11 attacks. On their iPads, the middle schoolers browse the web to find articles, videos, pictures and anything else they could find about the attacks. Then, they take what they need and plug that into a Keynote file or an iMovie file for the presentation they'll give when it's due in two weeks.

Mostly clear skies are on tap tonight across Kansas. South winds will continue to be on the gusty side. That will help keep lows on the mild side for this time of year.  Most spots will drop only to the 50s and 60s.  For Wichita, our morning low will equal the typical high temperature for this time of year! Clouds will slowly increase across the state on Saturday but we will still be ahead of a cold front, so readings will be very warm, possibly record breaking in spots.  Hang on to your hat and keep both hands on the steering wheel: gusty south to southwest winds will exceed 40 or 50 mph.  The front will also bring much needed moisture to most of central and eastern Kansas Saturday night and Sunday.

A windy evening will prevail across the state but speeds will back down just a bit after sunset.  Overall, still a breezy night ahead, which will keep the area in the 60s and 70s for lows.  We'll see mostly clear skies. Some big changes are ahead thanks to a cold front, which will enter northwest Kansas early Sunday morning.  This front will sink southeastward during the day and will take a bite out of the heat for the west.  Instead of 90s or triple digits, places like Goodland, Garden City and Hays will be in the 80s.  Ahead of the front though, another day in the 90s is forecast, along with gusty south winds.  There will be plenty of moisture around for the front to lift late Sunday afternoon and evening, which spells a bout of thunderstorms.  Some of these storms will likely turn severe, with large hail and high winds the main concerns.  Storms will continue into the evening hours then partly to mostly cloudy skies will take over.
