An audit into the Kansas Bioscience Authority shows misuse of taxpayer funds, and a cover-up of evidence. Since the KBA was created in 2004, lawmakers have given the agency more than a half billion dollars to bring bioscience companies to Kansas and create jobs. Now it former KBA President Tom Thornton is accused of serious allegations, that could result in criminal charges. According to an audit; the KBA made hundreds of payments without contracts, which is against the agency's policy.

Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) said he sent a letter today urging Boeing's CEO, Mr. James McNerney, to consider conveying its Wichita facility to a local or state development authority. Boeing announced last week that it would close its Wichita facility by 2013, but the future of the facility is still uncertain. “Despite the loss of more than 2,000 Boeing jobs, I am confident that given Wichita's skilled workforce, leading facilities, and dedicated leaders, the city will bounce back, maintaining its reputation as the Air Capital of the World,” Sen. Moran said.

Three people were killed in a Sunday morning fire outside of Garden City. Firefighters were called to the scene just after seven o'clock in the morning. Officials have not released the names of the victims. Authorities are expected to release more information about the fire on Monday.

He walked into a Wichita emergency room with a gunshot wound to the leg.  Hours later, police linked him to six separate robberies.  Authorities say the man told them he had been mugged and shot. But when officers questioned him, they discovered he had accidentally shot himself.  Police now believe the man is responsible for robberies dating back to November 2.  Investigators say on that date he walked into the Two Brother BBQ restaurant wearing a ski mask, held a gun up to a clerk and demanded that she empty the cash register.

A District judge rules the Wichita City Council didn't have the authority to revoke the liquor license from two local bars. Back in July, the city council revoked the license from Doobley's Bar on both West Street and west 31st Street.  The decision happened during a regular city council meeting, where the police department stated the bar's owner Robert Crandell made false statements about a beating at one of his bars.  Police told the council...

The goal was simple: To get guns out of the hands of convicted felons and prevent them from being used in crimes. The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday that charges had been filed against 67 people following a large multi-agency investigation in Wichita. "Today, Wichita, Kansas is a safer city," declared U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom, flanked by other local and federal law enforcement officers. Wednesday morning, officers hit the streets to begin making arrests in the 11 month long undercover operation.  So far, 55 people have been taken into custody, Grissom said.

Police in Marshall County are looking for a man who apparently threatened to kill police officers.  According to Marshall County Sheriff Dan Hargrave, the 27-year-old man was leaving a bar in Barneston, Nebraska and made statements that he was going to Kansas and was going to kill police officers. According to the report, the suspect, Kyle Joekel, was considered armed and dangerous and has ties to a terrorist organization. The report also stated that Joekel may be headed for Summerfield, Kansas.  Shortly after 10:00 Sunday, police in Marysville saw the man's car speeding into town.

Authorities in Great Bend are investigating a suspicious device brought into the Great Bend Police Department.  Chief Dean Akings says there was no threat made and authorities are in the process of evaluating the device to see what it is. Akings says the device was moved to another location.  No one was evacuated from the police department.

A week later, authorities in Reno County are still on the lookout for someone pretending to be a police officer. The sheriff's office says someone in a white four-door car with a spotlight told a woman he was an officer and drove her around saying she was a suspect in a gas drive off. Police in Elk County confiscate 4,000 marijuana plants growing in the rural part of the county.  Police say the plants were part of a grow operation in a heavily wooded area near the town of Howard. Investigators had been watching the area since receiving a tip last year. Along with the plants, the found camping equipment, drying tables, and an irrigation system. This is one of several such raids in recent months.
