Alex Gordon and Billy Butler both hit their 16th homers of the season in a four run third inning of a 5-4 decision, as the Royals salavaged a win in the of a three game series with the Yankees. Kansas City got six strong innings from starter Bruce Chen who won for a staff high eighth time this season. Third baseman Mike Moustakis had three hits in the win. The Royals split the seasons six game series with the Yankees and now welcome Boston to town for four starting tomorrow

Shin-Soo Choo hit three homers, including a grand slam, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 11-4 on Friday night. Choo finished with a career-best seven RBIs as Cleveland moved out of the AL Central basement, taking a half-game lead over the Royals. Lou Marson also drove in three runs. Mike Aviles and Billy Butler hit consecutive homers in the sixth for Kansas City, which has lost 10 of 14. Butler went 4 for 4 and Aviles had three hits. Choo hit a two-run shot in the second inning, his third career slam in the sixth and a solo shot in the eighth.

Billy Butler homered twice and drove in three runs, Alex Gordon doubled home the go-ahead run and the Kansas City Royals scored five times in the ninth inning to beat the Oakland Athletics 11-6 Monday. Jeff Francoeur, Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas had two RBIs apiece and Melky Cabrera also drove in a run for the Royals, who avoided being mathematically eliminated for at least one more day. Scott Sizemore hit a three-run homer for the A's, who had won four straight. David DeJesus, Josh Willingham and Kurt Suzuki each drove in a run. Butler hit a tying two-run shot off Craig Breslow in the seventh.

Miguel Montero piled up three RBIs, driving in the go-ahead runs with a double in the eighth inning, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Kansas City Royals 6-4 on Friday night. The Royals had pulled into a tie in the seventh before Kelvin Herrera (0-1) gave up back-to-back singles to Willie Bloomquist and Justin Upton to start the eighth. Montero's second double of the game off reliever Tim Collins gave the Diamondbacks the lead. Relievers Brad Ziegler (3-1) and Craig Breslow got the game to J.J. Putz, who worked around a two-out walk to Billy Butler in the ninth for his eighth save of the season.

Sergio Santos threw a wild pitch in the 11th inning that allowed Alex Gordon to score, giving the Kansas City Royals a 2-1 victory Wednesday night. Billy Butler swung at a pitch in the dirt that got away from catcher A.J. Pierzynski and Gordon came home and scored with a headfirst slide to give the Royals their 10th win in the final at-bat. Chris Sale (2-1) retired the first two batters before walking Gordon, who went to third on Mitch Maier's single. Santos then replaced Sale.

Butler's two-run blast off Ubaldo Jimenez (2-1) put the Royals ahead in the first. Eric Hosmer went 5 for 5 with a three-run homer and Luis Mendoza got his first major league win in more than three years in the Kansas City Royals' 10-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night. Hosmer's five-hit game was the first by a Royals player since Billy Butler on July 27, 2009. Mendoza, the Pacific Coast League pitcher of the year after going 12-5 with a league-best 2.18 ERA, held the Tigers to two runs, one unearned, and six hits in seven innings in his first big league appearance since April 19, 2010.

Jeff Francis pitched six-plus innings to win for the first time since July 29, Melky Cabrera homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-6 on Thursday night. Billy Butler went 4 for 5 with two RBIs and scored twice as the Royals won their first series since taking two of three against Baltimore from Aug. 2-4. It was Kansas City's first series victory in Toronto since August 2002. Butler doubled and scored in the fourth, singled in both the sixth and seventh and doubled home a pair of runs off reliever Shawn Camp in the eighth.

Billy Butler hit a late two-run homer and Zack Greinke pitched eight strong innings as the Kansas City Royals rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles Saturday night. After Jason Kendall singled in the eighth, Butler sent a drive over the Orioles bullpen in left field for his 12th homer. It came on a 2-2 pitch from David Hernandez (5-8). Greinke (7-10) held the Orioles to three runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked three. Greinke, the 2009 American League Cy Young Award winner, is 5-2 in his past seven starts.

Trevor Plouffe homered twice, Josh Willingham and Drew Butera had one each and the Minnesota Twins came back from four runs down to take a big lead, then held on to beat the Kansas City Royals 10-8 Sunday. With one run already across in the sixth, Willingham hit a three-run homer to tie the game at 5. Two batters later, Plouffe hit a solo shot for his second of the day. Plouffe also hit a solo homer in the second inning. Butera added a three-run shot in the eighth. The home runs came off Kansas City starter Bruce Chen (7-7)

Brian Bixler drove in a career-high three runs on three hits, including his first career homer, and Justin Maxwell and Brian Bogusevic also homered as the Houston Astros held off the Kansas City Royals for a 9-7 win Monday night. J.A. Happ (5-7) yielded four hits and two runs in 6-plus innings to break a four-game losing streak. It was his first start since allowing 11 hits and eight runs - both career highs - in Houston's 10-0 loss to San Francisco in which Matt Cain threw a perfect game.

Moustakas reached base for a 22nd consecutive game to help make a winner of Vin Mazzaro, who made his first start this season.

Alexi Casilla had two hits and two RBIs, but Minnesota again struggled with runners in scoring position and dropped below the Royals for the worst record in baseball.

Moments earlier, Broxton (0-1) plunked new A's cleanup hitter Yoenis Cespedes on the first pitch to load the bases and the closer received a mound visit from pitching coach Dave Eiland. It marked the third time the A's won on a game-ending hit by pitch in Oakland history and first since Olmedo Saenz on July 20, 2002, against Texas.
