Emergency crews responded to a collision involving a train and car in Sumner County.  It happened after 2:30 near Seneca and 40th Avenue near Wellington. Authorities say a person on the scene died, but they say it was a suicide.

A lizard may have caused a car crash late Friday afternoon.  The accident left the driver with serious injuries after he drove into a pole. When police arrived, they pulled the reptile out of the car.  Eyewitnesses say the man was speeding before the crash at Seneca and Stillwell.  They also say he was slumped over. The sheriff's office says the lizard was running around loose in the car.  "I don't believe, they're not an illegal reptile to have. I don't know if that played into a factor.

A 58 year old woman is airlifted to a Wichita hospital after she crashes her car north of Hutchinson. The accident happened near 56th avenue & Plum St around 5:30am Saturday. The Reno County Sheriff's Department reports the driver crossed the center line for an unknown reason.  The vehicle the entered a ditch, striking a mailbox and culvert before going airborne, then striking a second culvert. The 58 year old driver was transported by EMS to Hutchinson Regional Hospital, before being airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Bret Davis, the man accused of hitting James Miser in a car accident, was charged Monday with involuntary manslaughter while DUI and driving while suspended. The accident took place at 47th street south and K-15 highway on June 15th. Miser was critically injured in the crash and died two days later. Davis' preliminary hearing is set for August 15, 2011.

A 19-year-old woman is critically hurt in car accident. The accident happened on Southwest 170th near Rose Hill Saturday morning. A Butler County Deputy says she was driving too fast on a gravel road when she lost control and hit a tree. No other cars were involved. The woman was taken to Wesley Medical Center. Deputies don't believe the woman was drinking alcohol before the accident.

A crash Monday afternoon kills two people in Could County. The crash happened around two o'clock at U.S. 81 and Noble Road. Margaret Hawkins and her passenger Frederick Hawkins were crossing Noble road when she lost control and rolled the car into the ditch. Neither person was wearing seatbelts.

A 27-year-old man is rushed to the hospital following an accident Saturday morning. 911 dispatchers say they got a call about the incident around 7:02 a.m. near 37th & Broadway. Family members tell Wichita police the man usually gets off work around 3 a.m., so he may have been there for a long time before he was discovered. The man suffered critical injuries in the accident.

One person was taken to a Wichita hospital Monday after an early morning crash between a semi-truck and a passenger car. John Kruckenberg, 36, was taken to Wesley Medical Center and is in critical condition. At 4:15 a.m., a semi-truck heading east on U.S. Highway 50 hit a passenger truck going west. The accident was near U.S. 281 highway, two miles south of St. John, Kansas. For an unknown reason, the car swerved left of the center line, striking the left front end of the semi-truck, according to the Kansas Highway patrol.

Hays, KANSAS - A one vehicle accident has claimed the life of a 25-year old Hays man. The accident offucered at 11:32 pm Saturday in the 200 block of Hopewell Road in Ellis County. The Hays man was a passenger in a 2004 Ford Pickup truck driven by 31-year old Scott Pfannenstiel. He apparently lost control of the vehicle, entered the south ditch causing the truck to roll. Both men were ejected from the truck. The Hays man was pronounced dead at the scene. Pfannenstiel was life watched to Wichita, KS. The Ellis County Sheriff's department is investigating the crash.

Four people are in critical condition after a two vehicle accident at Highway 254 & Butler according to Butler County 911. Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet said Wichita resident Samsad Milia was driving southbound on Butler road with passengers in the vehicle. Herzet said Milia failed to break at the stop sign for the east bound traffic and hit a vehicle driven by El Dorado's resident Lesley Marshall. Both drivers and passengers were in critical condition and taken to Wesley Hospital.

A Wichita woman in a wheelchair was attacked with brass knuckles for her Coach purse, but the attacker did not get away. Instead the woman's boyfriend tackled the man and held him down until police got to the scene. "This one he hit me with the brass knuckles, he threw me down on this one and started going like this on this one," said victim Keeley McFann. She doesn't want her face on camera, McFann is showing us the bruises she got from an attack Monday night. She broke both legs in a car accident a few weeks ago and was outside her apartment on north Topeka in her wheelchair when a man came up from behind.

After years of research and testing, a Kansas man became the first to receive the latest in prosthetic technology.  "It's not going to help everyone, but there's a lot out there that it will help," said Steve Martinez about his brand new fingers.  Eyewitness News was with him when he put them on for the first time.  It was a day full of joy, celebrations, and gratitude as he experienced the medical marvel. Martinez can barely contain his excitement as he tries out his new fingers.  Even while talking, he's constantly moving them around, enjoying the sensations.  Every word is accompanied by the clacking sound the metal framework makes.  He exclaims excitedly over each newly discovered ability, pointing, waving, typing.  "No mistakes!"

Slick roads led to a car accident in Valley Center Thursday.  Police say a man lost control on the ice at Meridian and Sheridan.  He hit an oncoming pick up truck. The SUV driver went to the hospital with potentially serious injuries.  Three others suffered minor injuries in the accident.

A Harvey County infant lost her mother this week in a car accident. The girl's father survived, but is still healing after suffering two broken femurs. As he works to recover, he faces raising a nine-month-daughter on his own. That's why friends and family in the town of Sedgwick are organizing a benefit to help them move forward.  "This is where it all started, our friendship back in kindergarten.  We've all been together growing up in a small town, you're classmates for life," said Kirsten Liby.

Derby graduate Colby Liston is back home with family and has started his road to recovery after losing both legs in a car accident. Shortly after the accident Liston took to his Twitter account with a positive attitude.  Liston still has the same outlook on life as he shared his story with us from the living room of his Derby home. “I always try to be optimistic about everything and I figured to think about the good things is the best way to be about it,” says Colby.

A former Derby High student lost both legs after a weekend car accident in Lawrence.  Eighteen year-old Colby Liston and several friends were leaving a party around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.  They were getting into the back of an SUV that was stopped in the road when another vehicle struck them from behind.  Liston was pinned between the two vehicles, a police report said. The impact crushed his legs and sent some of his friends falling out of the back of the SUV and onto the street.

This weekend is a major milestone for Nicole Smith.  Skydive Kansas in Osage City is her final stop in her journey to skydive in all 50 states.  But more than that, it's proof how far she has come in the last year. "I was in a car accident June of last year, and it put life into perspective for me," says Nicole.  "I sustained several serious injuries: a broken neck, broken back, 4 pelvic fractures, and a couple of broken ribs. It was one of those moments where my family was told I would never have a normal conversation again because of a couple brain injuries that I sustained from the accident, and that I may not be able to walk again" But not only has Nicole made a complete recovery, she has thrown herself into her goal of skydiving in all 50 states.  And the sport that Nicole has developed a passion for has given her a unique perspective.  "You don't really have an idea of how high you are until you are standing in the door and looking down.  It was just so overwhelming seeing the ground, seeing how high I was. " "It becomes more of a sensation of peace, getting up in the air, and being at 14-thousand feet and free-falling.  It puts life into perspective for me, about 60 seconds at time.  The little petty things in life, like someone cutting me off in traffic, some small irritant becomes irrelevant almost.
