This weekend is a major milestone for Nicole Smith.  Skydive Kansas in Osage City is her final stop in her journey to skydive in all 50 states.  But more than that, it's proof how far she has come in the last year. "I was in a car accident June of last year, and it put life into perspective for me," says Nicole.  "I sustained several serious injuries: a broken neck, broken back, 4 pelvic fractures, and a couple of broken ribs. It was one of those moments where my family was told I would never have a normal conversation again because of a couple brain injuries that I sustained from the accident, and that I may not be able to walk again" But not only has Nicole made a complete recovery, she has thrown herself into her goal of skydiving in all 50 states.  And the sport that Nicole has developed a passion for has given her a unique perspective.  "You don't really have an idea of how high you are until you are standing in the door and looking down.  It was just so overwhelming seeing the ground, seeing how high I was. " "It becomes more of a sensation of peace, getting up in the air, and being at 14-thousand feet and free-falling.  It puts life into perspective for me, about 60 seconds at time.  The little petty things in life, like someone cutting me off in traffic, some small irritant becomes irrelevant almost.

He claimed to be stranded in Spain after a car accident. “He had a cut up face, a broken nose and a cut so they had to take him to the hospital,” says Gunnerson as she describes the call. She says the man was convincing and begged her not to tell his mother. “He needed money…they wouldn't let him out of Madrid until he paid for the accident.” Gunnerson headed for her bank and wired $6,000.
