Hays, KANSAS - A one vehicle accident has claimed the life of a 25-year old Hays man. The accident offucered at 11:32 pm Saturday in the 200 block of Hopewell Road in Ellis County. The Hays man was a passenger in a 2004 Ford Pickup truck driven by 31-year old Scott Pfannenstiel. He apparently lost control of the vehicle, entered the south ditch causing the truck to roll. Both men were ejected from the truck. The Hays man was pronounced dead at the scene. Pfannenstiel was life watched to Wichita, KS. The Ellis County Sheriff's department is investigating the crash.

After more than 20 years of volunteering her time, KWCH 12's Kim Setty is honored by Goodwill Industries of Kansas.  Setty accepted the 2011 Dedicated Volunteer Award Tuesday night at Goodwill's annual dinner and awards meeting.  Setty is well-known by viewers as the “Does It Work?” consumer reporter and anchor of Eyewitness News at Noon.  She has been off the air for several months and continues receiving treatment for cancer. Setty's involvement with Goodwill started in the early 1990s, helping host a yearly telethon.

A man is in the hospital after a car accident in far western Sedgwick County last night. A deputy says the driver lost control of his car at 327th West and Six Street South near Garden Plain. The man then hit a mailbox, went airborne, and hit a tree. He was found in his car in the ditch and flown to a Wichita hospital in critical condition. The accident remains under investigation.

One person was taken to a Wichita hospital Monday after an early morning crash between a semi-truck and a passenger car. John Kruckenberg, 36, was taken to Wesley Medical Center and is in critical condition. At 4:15 a.m., a semi-truck heading east on U.S. Highway 50 hit a passenger truck going west. The accident was near U.S. 281 highway, two miles south of St. John, Kansas. For an unknown reason, the car swerved left of the center line, striking the left front end of the semi-truck, according to the Kansas Highway patrol.

Bret Davis, the man accused of hitting James Miser in a car accident, was charged Monday with involuntary manslaughter while DUI and driving while suspended. The accident took place at 47th street south and K-15 highway on June 15th. Miser was critically injured in the crash and died two days later. Davis' preliminary hearing is set for August 15, 2011.

Two women are taken to the hospital after and accident on east bound Kellogg. The car went off the road and down the embankment. It stopped after hitting a pole. One woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, the other in serious condition. Expect more updates on kwch.com as we get them.

Two people were killed in separate accidents on Kansas roadways Monday. One happened at Ridge Road and Highway 50 just west of Newton.Harvey County Safety officials say one person died and a second person is in serious condition after the head-on crash there. In an unrelated accident, one person is dead after a rollover accident near 263rd and Hwy 54. Two vehicles were involved in that crash.

Emergency crews are on the scene of an accident near Volutsia and Mossman in northeast Wichita. Paramedics took a two-year-old to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition. The hospital is just a few blocks from the scene of the crash. Authorities say the child was hit by a car just after six o'clock Friday night. As of Saturday night the child still remains in critical condition.

Two Colby residents were injured in a one-vehicle accident Monday night. Kansas Highway Patrol troopers say their pickup was westbound on U.S Highway 24, just west of Thomas County Road 24 when it tried to pass another vehicle late Monday night. The driver of the pickup, Brady Robert Rundel, 21, lost control.  The truck spun into a ditch and rolled.  Both Rundel, and his passenger, Dalen Jo Schlageck, 21, were thrown out of the truck. Rundel was taken to the Thomas County Medical Center.

Seventy four-year-old MaryLou Gunnerson is the latest victim of a familiar scam, often called the “grandparent scam.” The Wichita woman received a call from a person she thought was her nephew. He claimed to be stranded in Spain after a car accident. “He had a cut up face, a broken nose and a cut so they had to take him to the hospital,” says Gunnerson as she describes the call. She says the man was convincing and begged her not to tell his mother. “He needed money…they wouldn't let him out of Madrid until he paid for the accident.” Gunnerson headed for her bank and wired $6,000.
