Kansas City Royals second baseman Chris Getz is expected to miss the rest of the season with a broken left thumb. Getz was injured in the fifth inning Friday night when he tried to bunt against the Chicago White Sox. The pitch hit his hand and the ball went foul. Getz began the night batting .280 with no homers and 17 RBIs. He is scheduled to have surgery on his thumb Saturday.

Yuniesky Betancourt hit a grand slam in the seventh inning, then delivered a two-out single in the 11th that gave the Kansas City Royals a 6-5 win over the Chicago White Sox in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday night. The second game of the twi-nighter was set to start shortly after 10 p.m. Betancourt's third grand slam of the season tied a Royals record set by Danny Tartabull in 1988. Betancourt and Alex Rodriguez are the only major leaguers with three slams this season.

Adam Dunn hit his 11th homer to match his total from last season, leading Gavin Floyd and the Chicago White Sox to a 5-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Friday night. Dunn's long homer to right off Felipe Paulino gave Floyd the lead in the first. It was Dunn's sixth homer in his last 10 games. Floyd (3-3) allowed five hits, struck out five and walked two in 7 2-3 strong innings.

Left-hander Danny Duffy has been pulled from the Kansas City Royals' game at the Chicago White Sox with an apparent injury. Duffy got Adam Dunn to fly out for the second out of the first inning before a trainer and Royals manager Ned Yost came out to the mound. After a short discussion, Duffy was replaced by right-hander Luis Mendoza. The 23-year-old Duffy faced three batters in his sixth start of the season. He entered Sunday's game with a 2-2 record and a 4.00 ERA.

Paul Konerko had a pair of two-run homers and an RBI single and pinch-hitter Andruw Jones had grand slam in a six-run sixth inning, leading the Chicago White Sox to a 12-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Konerko lined a run-scoring single to left to give Chicago its first lead of the game in the sixth inning. Kansas City led 6-0 after a half inning, but Chicago chipped away with two runs apiece in the first, third and fourth innings. The victory helped Chicago keep pace in the AL Central.

Luis Mendoza pitched into the eighth inning for his second consecutive victory and Jarrod Dyson hit a two-run double to lift the Kansas City Royals over the Chicago White Sox 2-1 on Sunday. Chicago lost for the 11th time in 15 games and with its 82nd defeat ensured the third losing record in manager Ozzie Guillen's eight-year tenure. The young Royals continued their late-season surge, winning for the 10th time in 13 games. Mendoza (2-0) limited Chicago to one run and five hits over 7 2-3 innings after holding AL Central champion Detroit to two runs in seven innings last Tuesday, his first big league start in nearly a year and a half.

Jose Lopez had three RBIs and Jason Kipnis drove in two runs to help the Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 8-5 Monday. Josh Tomlin (2-2) gave up four runs and four hits in five innings as Cleveland broke a three-game losing streak. The right-hander had not pitched since May 7 due to right wrist tendinitis. Kipnis had a two-run single in a five-run third inning off Nathan Adcock (0-3) as the first-place Indians maintained a half-game lead in the AL Central over the Chicago White Sox. They had lost three in a row at Chicago over the weekend.

Mike Moustakas stroked a go-ahead single in the 10th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. The Royals plated both their runs with two outs in the 10th off Brett Myers (2-3), the seventh of eight White Sox pitchers in the game. The rally started after Alcides Escobar was thrown out, leaving the bases empty and two outs. Myers walked Billy Butler, who was replaced by pinch runner Jarrod Dyson. Salvador Perez, Moustakas and Jeff Francoeur then hit consecutive singles, the last two driving in runs.

Alcides Escobar hit a pair of homers off Jake Peavy, the second a go-ahead shot with two outs in the seventh inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 6-3 Saturday night. The 25-year-old shortstop had just two homers all season and 11 in his career before he connected for a two-run shot off Chicago's All-Star right-hander in the third inning. White Sox slugger Adam Dunn homered and Dayan Viciedo hit an RBI triple in the sixth to tie it at 3, but Escobar doubled up against Peavy (7-6)

Former Wichita State Shocker Conor Gillaspie has been traded from the San Francisco Giants to the Chicago White Sox. The trade was announced Friday afternoon. The 25-year old third-baseman Gillaspie was traded for pitching prospect Jeff Soptic. Gillaspie was chosen by the Giants with the 37th overall pick in the 2008 MLB draft. He was called up to the major league roster on September 6th, 2008. The former Shocker third-baseman has played off and on for parts of three seasons on the big-leauge roster with the Giants. In his time in the big leagues Gillaspie hit .205 in 48 at bats.
