Every summer the Sedgwick County Zoo has a series of concerts called the Capitol Federal Summer Concert Series that takes place every other Thursday. The first one was last Thursday, June 2. The band was Liverpool – a Beatles tribute band. It was a blast! You can buy food, drinks, bring a lawn chair and just sit back and relax. Shane, Rashell (from Univision) and I were able to make it out to the concert, have some fun, find out what people’s favorite Beatles songs are, etc. The Crew will actually be at all of the concerts. Now, this summer there is a lot of great talent coming out to the zoo, a lot of soul, rock, R&B…..basically, you don’t wanna miss it. Here is this summer’s line up: June 16 is Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds - a mix of gut-busting soul, earthy rock and New Orleans beats.

It seems like these days there's rarely a free concert, especially from national recording artists. Well guess what? Here in Wichita we are in luck! Drew Holcomb performs with The Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors band. His wife, Ellie, performs alongside him. They've opened for acts like Ryan Adams and The Avett Brothers (who will in fact be here in early March…but not for free). They've gained a following across the country due to their extensive touring. We are so lucky because they will be stopping in Wichita this month for a FREE, all ages show!

There's no where to sit inside Century II's Concert Hall, but it's not because of a sold out show. This week the City of Wichita began renovations on the hall, which includes removing all of the old seats. While they've been refurbished at one point, the seats are the original ones from when the hall was built in 1969. As the process moves forward, the hall will get new paint, new carpet and new, more comfortable chairs. The $1.5 million in renovations are part of the city's long-term captial improvement plan.

Monday's concert by Kid Rock at INTRUST Bank Arena is still on. The Arena said Monday morning that the winter storm blanketing most of the state will not impact the show. The arena will open its doors at 5:30 to allow people to get there early. All shuttles will run as normal. The concert is scheduled to start at seven o'clock. Concert-goers should leave plenty of time to get downtown as roads are snow-packed and blizzard like conditions persist.
