By Roger Cornish (WICHITA, Kan) As Sedgwick County EMS arrived at the INTRUST Bank Arena on opening night, they discovered two men assisting an arena employee who was experiencing a heart attack.  The men were administering CPR and preparing to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).  As reported, one of the men was Brad Paisley's father who had been a volunteer firefighter and EMT and was trained to administer these life-saving treatments. Sedgwick County EMS Director Steve Cotter noted that the men's actions "helped sustain the patient until our crew arrived," and reminds citizens that this type of training is not reserved for only emergency medical workers.

Butler County Emergency Medical Services announced Friday they have created a Butler County Public Responder Network (BCPR) and they're making CPR training a top priority. The BCPR network will offer free training for CPR and use of an Automated External Defibrillator. The training will also be offered to students at Butler County schools. Cardiac Arrest that occurs out of the hospital affects 50,000-100,000 people per year. Unfortunately, only about 6% of people survive on average.
