In the early 1940's, a U.S. military bomber was traveling from California to Topeka when it lost its way in an overnight storm. The pilot flew into a hill near Osborne, killing 11 servicemen. Now almost 70 years later the memorial constructed in the mens' honor has been destroyed. "The monument looked like someone had just backed into it," Laure McClure of the Osborne Carnagie Research Library said. The monument was constructed in the early 2000's when historian Von Rothenberger learned about the crash.

The only remaining gray area involves a couple of players who arrived late to fall camp. Weis also said he's started to plan for the opener against South Dakota State on Sept.

The Chris Brown era of football starts off well, as Fort Hays State wins it's 6th straight home opener 27-17 over Emporia State. Fort Hays State would finally get on the board in the second quarter when Anthony Smith made a nice juggling catch of a Blake McAhren pass for the 13 yard touchdown and tying the game at 7.
