Bradley outfield Mike Tauchman and Redbirds' ace Chris Razo highlight the 2013 MVC all-conference baseball teams, being tabbed Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Illinois State's Mark Kingston has been named the Dan Callahan Coach of the Year, after leading the Redbirds to their first outright regular-season title since in program history and the top seed in this week's MVC Baseball Championship. Tauchman is Bradley's second-ever Player of the Year, while Razo is the first-ever Redbird to be named Pitcher of the Year.

Fort Hays State's Maddie Holub was named to the NFCA All-America First Team on Wednesday (May 22). Holub becomes the first-ever All-America First Team selection in Fort Hays State softball history. She is just the second All-American in the program's Division II history, following Jessika Anastos, who was a Daktronics Second Team selection in 2008. Holub was one of three pitchers named to the first team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, joining Kayla Cox from the University of Tampa (Fla.)

The Royals have put right-hander Sean O'Sullivan on the 15-day disabled list with biceps tendinitis and recalled Jesse Chavez from Triple-A Omaha. The team announced the moves Friday before its game against the Minnesota Twins. O'Sullivan gave up seven runs on eight hits, two walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch in 2 2-3 innings in a loss Thursday to the Twins. He went 0-3 with a 13.25 ERA in his past four starts and was 2-5 overall with a 6.92 ERA in 11 outings, including nine starts.

The Kansas City Royals activated Kyle Davies from the 15-day disabled list, and the right-hander will start Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Davies was placed on the DL on May 17 with right rotator cuff inflammation. Before the injury, he was 1-6 with a 7.46 ERA in 10 starts. He was 1-3 with a 2.70 ERA in two rehab starts at Double- A Northwest Arkansas and two relief appearances for Triple-A Omaha. To make room for Davies, the Royals optioned outfielder Jarrod Dyson to Omaha.

The Royals have promoted Greg Holland from Triple-A Omaha to fill the roster spot of outfielder Scott Podsednik, who was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Royals announced the move before Thursday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The 24-year-old Holland was 3-3 with a 3.81 ERA and three saves for Omaha. The former 10th-round draft pick out of Western Kentucky has been especially good recently, going 1-0 with a 1.10 ERA and 30 strikeouts in his last 10 outings.

The Kansas City Royals placed right-hander Felipe Paulino on the 15-day disabled list Saturday and recalled right-hander Nate Adcock from Triple-A Omaha. Paulino was forced to leave his start Wednesday against Minnesota in the first inning because of a strained left groin. He is 3-1 with a 1.67 ERA in seven starts this year after beginning the season on the DL with a right forearm strain. Right-hander Luis Mendoza will move from the bullpen into the rotation and start Tuesday against Milwaukee.

The Kansas City Royals have traded outfielder Melky Cabrera to the San Francisco Giants for left-hander Jonathan Sanchez and another minor league pitcher. Sanchez was the Giants' best pitcher during the latter part of 2010, when they beat the Texas Rangers to win the World Series. But he was just 4-7 with a 4.26 ERA this season before missing the final month with a left ankle sprain. Cabrera hit a career-best .305 with 44 doubles, 18 homers and 87 RBIs in his first season with the Royals.

The Kansas City Royals announced today that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Vin Mazzaro and left-handed pitcher Justin Marks from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for outfielder David DeJesus. Mazzaro replaces DeJesus on the Major League roster while Marks has been assigned to the Wilmington (A Advanced) roster. “This deal allows us to further increase our pitching depth at the Major and minor league levels,” Royals’ General Manager Dayton Moore said.

The Wichita Wingnuts announced their first player moves for the 2012 season on Monday, signing pitchers Brandon Mathes and Shawn Joy. The Wichita Wingnuts signed right-handed pitcher Jonathan Ellis on Tuesday. Ellis is in his eighth season of professional baseball and owns a lifetime record of 31-26 with a 3.90 ERA in 395.0 innings of work. Ellis pitched in the Atlantic League last season, splitting time with Somerset and Camden. The 28-year old righty was a combined 4-3 with a 5.05 ERA in 24 games, 10 as a starter, and struck out 51 in 62.1 IP. ...
