Three storm chasers were killed by a deadly EF3 tornado Friday in El Reno, OK. Tim Samaras, a well known veteran to storm chasing, was among those killed. He has been chasing for over three decades. Those who knew him well describe him as "cautious" and "one of the best in the world". Samaras founded the group Twistex, which stands for Tactical Weather Instrumented Sampling in/near Tornadoes Experiment. According to the group's Facebook page, "The primary research objectives of TWISTEX involve achieving a better understanding of tornado formation, maintenance and decay processes and gaining insight and knowledge of the seldom sampled near-surface internal tornado environment.

As Salina authorities investigate a woman's disappearance, a Salina man hopes a website he created will help bring her, and other missing Kansans, home safe. Rick Tebrugge is behind the Facebook page Kansas Missing & Unsolved . It's a forum profiling missing person's cases across the state. Some of the cases are decades old. Tebrugge said when he heard about Kristin Tyler, he went to work on this Facebook page. "I guess you could say she's one of my own, she's from Salina, I'm trying to help," he said.

A member of the Phelps family is denying claims that hactivist group 'Anonymous' took over the Westboro Baptist Church Facebook page. The Topeka-Capital Journal reports 'Anonymous' brand-jacked the page as a hoax. Shirley Phelps-Roper said WBC doesn't have a Facebook page. "There are so many fake Twitter and Facebook accounts that it keeps the anonymous groups busy trying to figure out who's hacking who," she told the newspaper. News of the rumor spread quickly through social media Tuesday after Anonymous threatened WBC when the group announced plans to picket any services for the Boston bombing victims.

Smoke and flames could be seen for miles as fire destroyed the Island Park playground in Winfield. This is the second time fire has destroyed the playground. As fire investigators work to find out who set the fire, others are trying to figure out ways to rebuild what was destroyed. Kelli Grant got the news about in the middle of the night. "I just said oh no and was very upset, couldn't sleep," said Grant. The playground was destroyed Thursday night after witnesses reported smoke and flames. Firefighters say the playground is a total loss---with about $700,000 in damage.

The Shepherd family never takes a single moment for granted. "We don't know from day to day what's expected," James Shepard said. "We really don't. That's the frustrating part. " Two of his daughters carry a genetic mitochondria disease that left them without hearing or the use of their limbs. Doctors have never seen it before, but they know it will take their lives. "I did CPR right here in the middle of the floor, we were in the hospital and since that time we've been in and out of the hospital for the last 14 years," says James.

A 28-year-old Wichita man was arrested for impersonating an officer on his Facebook page. Police say he claimed to be a Wichita officer under the occupation section of his page. He was reported after police say he made derogatory comments on-line. When police investigated they quickly learned the man was not an officer. Police Lt. Doug Nolte says it's illegal to impersonate an officer, even on social media.

Update: A Pratt County couple is arrested on animal cruelty charges. Jimmy and April Cleaver were arrested Thursday. The Pratt County Sheriff's Department says they couple failed to provide food, water and shelter to at least six dogs. They were released from jail after posting $500 bond. ------- Original Story - Jan, 2013 A Pratt county couple faces animal cruelty charges after complaints about the way they treat their dogs. County Attorney Ken VanBlaricum says he's received many reports about the dogs being malnourished and left out in the cold without shelter.

A bill in the Kansas legislature is meant to protect your privacy on social media. Representative Gail Finney introduced legislation to prevent employers and prospective employers from demanding access to your personal Facebook and other social media accounts. Finney also wants to give the same rights to students at colleges and universities. She introduced three bills dealing with the issue, House Bills 2092 , 2093 and 2094 . Not everybody supports the idea. "I think for a lot of employers, they want to make sure they maintain a certain image of responsibility, so I don't think there should be a law prohibiting it necessarily," Wichita State student Adam Cole says.
