Retailers say they have suspicions about impulse buying the the after-work hours, and some are timing promotions to start in the evening. Lawmakers want to make it more difficult for sex offenders to be online, particularly social networks. This week, the Louisiana State Legislature passed a law requiring convicted sex offenders to identify themselves on social networking websites, like Facebook. Here in Kansas, the state law requires violent offenders to register with the county, handing over their address, phone number, work information, and email addresses, among other things. According to law enforcement, the law does not specifically require offenders to hand over social network information.

That's how many meals a Wichita charity could feed the hungry - if it wins a $30,000 prize. The Lord's Diner is one of 15 contestants in an internet contest. The top vote-getter gets the cash. It couldn't come at a better time, said Wendy Glick of The Lord's Diner. In June, the charity served about 14,600 meals. Historically, its numbers don't spike until July and August. Have you heard about the Stop Kony campaign?  It's all over Facebook this week.  My kids wanted to talk to me about it. It's a video about a violent Ugandan leader who kidnaps kids and turns them into fighters. The video hopes to draw world wide attention to Kony in an effort to stop him and bring him to justice. But there are concerns from some about using social media to raise awareness. The Washington Post looks at the back story read it here and see what you think.

Hutchinson police warn people to be wary of some door-to-door salesmen. On the police department's Facebook page Hutch police say several people have complained about a company named ECR Corporations. The company has six or seven people in the Hutchinson area. Hutch police say the company is working without a required peddler's permit. The department says the employees have been seen wearing red jackets and are selling books and magazines. If you see one of the sales people, call 911.

One of the first things Jeff Freund did when he moved into his position as principal at Coleman Middle School, was create a Facebook page for his school. "We recently posted a picture of one teacher teaching.  And, a parent commented on how great that teacher was.  It was a good little boost in morale,” Freund said. The school's page is the only Facebook interaction Freund really "likes" when it comes to teacher involvement. "I encourage them to not necessarily be friends with current students on Facebook.  I think there's too great of a chance that something can get misinterpreted,” Freund said.

Country music fans, mark your calendars - George Strait and Martina McBride are coming to INTRUST Bank Arena. The arena announced this morning via Facebook that the country music superstars will take the stage on February 18. Ticket information will be available at a later date. You may remember, George Strait was among the first performers to book at INTRUST Bank Arena back in February of 2010. This will be Martina McBride's first performace at the arena.

The campaign won a national award and grabbed the attention of child safety advocate John Walsh. A group of Wichita School students decided to take on inter-net safety and will continue the program through the summer.    The "wonder who's watching" campaign took home first place for the northwest high school students in a national marketing and entrepreneurship competition.  The campaign teaches students about the dangers of posting...

Twenty “Duckwall” stores in small towns across Kansas will close in just about a month. Efforts to save the stores have taken on a new life in LaCrosse. Residents are trying to salvage a store that they call “a necessity”. "This is just devastating to the community," says LaCrosse resident Suzanne Randa.  When she heard that her near-by “Duckwall” location may close Randa decided to take her concerns to the internet.
