The Kansas State Fair announces it has added Bridgit Mendler, Theory of a Deadman and Lynyrd Skynyrd to the 2013 U.S. Cellular Grandstand lineup. In addition, JT Hodges has been added as an opening act for Toby Keith on Sunday, September 15 while Mockingbird Sun will open for Eli Young Band on Sunday, September 8. The Demolition Derby (Monday, Sept. 9) and Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pull (Wednesday, Sept. 11) will also return this year. This year's fair will run September 6-15.

A Sedgwick County deputy is recovering at the hospital this morning. He's now listed in fair condition. Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter and Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet are holding a press conference to release more information about the shooting. Investigators worked through the night to sort out the details. We do know the man who shot the deputy was also shot by officers. He's in critical condition and is being guarded at the hospital. A woman was also taken into custody.

Tempers boiled at Tuesday night's City Commission meeting in Herington. "Are you being surly?" Bart Hinkle, one of the leading protestors, asked at one point during the meeting as City Attorney Brad Jantz was explaining points of City Manager Ron Strickland's contract. "No, I'm being straight up with you," said Jantz. "You're being surly," insisted Hinkle. Herington City Commissioners changed their minds about a $15,000 raise for the City manager. But, Strickland will still get a $5,000 raise for a total salary of $91,000 a year.

Cowley County is hosting a two-day job fair this week. The fair boasts more than 300 open positions that need to be filled. Many of those jobs are at the Rubbermaid plant in Winfield. Other employment opportunities include manufacturing positions, plastic mold technicians, firefighters, EMT and Paramedics, RN, waste water tech and others. The March 5th job fair ran until 1:00 in Winfield. On March 6, the Arkansas City Job Fair will take place at the Cowley College Wright Room, 215 S 2nd St, from 3:00-7:00pm.

Wichita's newest hotel is about to open, and it is hiring. The Ambassador Hotel held a job fair Thursday. The hotel should be open the middle of next month. The jobs available include housekeeping, waiter, front desk, valet parking....just about anything you would expect to see at a restaurant or hotel. What kind of people are they looking for? Executive Vice President Michael Frimel tells us, "We're looking for individuals that really care about giving good customer service...about making customers aware of what there is to do in Wichita and really being ambassadors to the Wichita area itself".

The Ambassador Hotel in downtown Wichita is holding a job fair today. Michael Frimel, the Managing Director of the hotel, says they are looking to hire about 100 employees. "We'll have some supervisor positions, housekeeping, restaurant, front desk, valet parking, bellman, turn down attendants … so a wide array of job opportunities," says Frimel. The Ambassador survived a heated battle earlier this year.

The general manager of the Kansas State Fair says it will be a couple of weeks before he has attendance numbers for the 2012 fair. Denny Stoecklein says he has been getting a lot of positive feedback from fairgoers about this year's event. Fair officials conduct a ticket audit after the fair to determine attendance. Stoecklein says it usually takes two or three weeks to complete the audit. Stoecklein says this year the carnival had its second highest grossing year ever. He says advance sales were up for both the gate and carnival rides.

It's one of the most dangerous situations in the ag industry. Now, there's a training tool for Kansas firefighters and grain elevator workers. The Grain Engulfment Rescue Trainer is on display at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. It simulates what happens if someone gets trapped in a grain elevator. The Kansas Fire and Rescue Training Institute travels the state with it. The institute trains firefighters and grain elevator employees how to rescue workers who may be trapped.

Veterans received a special treat at the Kansas State Fair Wednesday. They were treated to a free brunch, as well as entertainment and remarks from an Iraq War vet at the annual Bring a Veteran to Brunch event. The annual brunch at has been a part of the fair for the last three years. Many of the veterans at the event wore hats and buttons to indicate their branch of service, and what conflicts they served in. Connie Schmitt, special events director for the Kansas State Fair says it's important to honor all veterans, and many who attend the brunch served during World War II. "We're losing probably over a thousand a day of our World War II veterans, and its our way of saying thank you," she said. About 175 people attended the brunch, including veterans and their family members. The brunch also included music and a speech by an Army Chaplain, speaking about his service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
