Wichita public schools will be offering free food for children as part of a summer program. The free breakfasts and lunches will be available for children 18 years old and younger at 37 locations across Wichita. Some sites will offer meals throughout the length of the program, while others will offer meals sometime during those months. Some locations will offer both breakfast and lunch, while others will offer only one meal and seven sites will offer an afternoon snack. The numbers are down a little, but the Kansas Food Bank still wants to say, "Thank you. " Wichita letter carriers helped raise 142-thousand pounds of food during their 21st annual drive. That's about 15-thousand less than last year. That food is now being processed for distribution. In those 21 years, letter carriers have gathered more than two million pounds of food for Kansans in need. Even though the official food drive is over....you can still donate. The Food Bank's Larry Gunkel tells us, "All this week letter carriers will continue to pick up food and for those folks who do not care to burden their letter carrier with a donation, all the seven postal stations around wichita will receive and accept that food on behalf of the food bank".

Update: The Kansas Food Bank hopes says it's secured a huge grant from Wal Mart. The Food Bank was one of many organizations vying for one of forty $45k grants in Wal Mart's "Fighting Hunger Together" campaign. Facebook users voted for organizations online with the top forty picked to receive grants. Voting lasted through the entire month of April and ended at midnight Tuesday. The organization says the money will be used to support the Food 4 Kids backpack program, which currently serves over 7,100 children each Friday with a packet of food for the weekend.

Quite a mess in Stafford County Wednesday morning after a semi hauling food rolled over overnight. It happened on HWY 50 just east of Stafford shortly after midnight. Click for Photos from the Crash Scene Authorities tell the St. John News the driver was headed toward Garden City when he went off the road, over-corrected and went off the other side of the road. The truck struck a driveway embankment and slid a few hundred yards before striking some small trees.

A Sedgwick County inmate is facing additional charges after he is accused of attacking a deputy with a food tray. KFDI reports the dispute began when a 19-year-old man grabbed an extra tray from the meal line Monday night. A deputy asked the inmate to put the tray back, and return to his cell. The inmate refused, picked up his juice, and threw it in the deputy's face. Authorities said the inmate then began hitting the deputy in the head with the food tray. Other deputies saw the food tray fight and managed to handcuff the inmate.

The shelves at Wichita's Ronald McDonald House are full to overflowing right now. Farm Bureaus from four area counties...Tuesday donated more than 14-hundred dollars in food. They bought the food at a discount from Leeker's Family Foods and delivered it to the house. The Ronald McDonald House provides a place to stay for about 20 families a night, who have sick or injured children staying in local hospitals. Not having to worry about food during that stressful time is a real blessing.

A Wichita man will spend the next 25 years behind bars in connection to a fast-food robbery, then firing shots at police while trying to get away. Paul Sifuentez, 56, pleaded guilty to one count of robbery, one count of brandishing a firearm during a robbery, one count of discharging a firearm during a crime of violence and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. He admitted to robbing Kentucky Fried Chicken, 1251 S. Woodlawn, June 7. Employees told police Sifuentez demanded money and threatened them with a gun. He ran out of the restaurant and got away in a car driven by James Adamson.

Two thousand people are set to gather at the Kansas Pavilions with hopes of setting a Guinness World Record for the most hunger relief meals packaged in an hour. The Serving the Hungry at Home and in Haiti event was set up through Numana, Volunteer Kansas and the Downtown Rotary Club of Wichita. Guinness World Record officials will be on hand as an expected 350,000 meals are packaged in just one hour. The event runs from 10 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Pavilion II. The meals that are packaged will provide a hot lunch for 800 school children and their families in Lambert and Borde, Haiti.

Two women were eating dinner at Juni's Cafe on North Rock Road when they were robbed at gunpoint. A young man came in with a bandana over his face, holding a gun. He took their purses and ran away. Witnesses saw the incident from the parking lot. Police are still looking for him.
