Cheyenne County Emergency Management said Tuesday that food that has been recalled due to contamination was distributed within Cheyenne County starting last Friday, August 19th. The product may contain Listeria. Emergency Officials are warning if you have the following products not to eat and discard immediately. Recalled products: Rojo's Ultimate 7 Layer Dip, 36 oz 35196-44162 with a use by date of 09/16/2011 or before Fresh Food Concepts 5 Layer Dip, 32 oz 29358-11272, with the use by date of 09/16/11 or before Please call your healthcare provider, local health department, or hospital is you have eaten any of the above product and are experiencing the following symptoms; fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or severe unusual headache.

Gluten-free foods are quite the rage these days. Gluten-free macaroni and cheese. Gluten-free cereal. And gluten-free cake mix. More than 1,300 gluten-free products showed up on supermarkets last year alone. Oprah even went on a gluten-free diet. Those foods are good for people with celiac disease, which is on the rise. It damages the small intestine. That damage prevents people with celiac disease from absorbing the nutrients in food. Gluten can show up in unlikely places, such as hot dogs, tea, deli meats, and even lip gloss.

Foods high in fat include red meats (beef), lamb, duck, goose, and any type of cold cuts - including hot dogs. Also, cheddar cheese, butter, whole milk dairy products, and traditional snacks which are either fried in oil or prepared with oil. Many snacks such as crackers, cookies, muffins, etc., are high in fat, especially in saturated (bad) fat. Foods included in the low fat group are chicken, turkey, fresh or frozen fish, and low fat dairy products. There are multiple commercial products available now which are either "fat free" or "low fat" which are beneficial in reducing dietary fat. Besides choosing low-fat foods, increasing soluble fiber is also helpful.

by Kara Sewell (EL DORADO, Kan.) Sunday, in El Dorado, the success of volunteers sits inside the trailer of a big rig truck. "We were expecting to meet the goal, we were surprised to beat it," says Numana Inc. President Rick McNary. Each box of food inside the trailer was packaged by people around Kansas and surrounding states. "People would come for a shift and then recycle back through and sometimes do four of five shifts throughout the day," says McNary. Five-thousand people over two days.

Procter & Gamble is recalling a specific type of Iams canned cat food. The company calls it a precautionary measure. The recalled product is Iams ProActive Health canned Cat and Kitten Food - all varieties of 3 oz & 5.5 oz cans. The date of 09/2011 to 06/2012. Procter & Gamble is recalling the product because tests show the food may contain insufficient levels of thiamine, a vitamin essential for cats. Cats who are only fed this food are at greater risk for developing signs of thiamine deficiency.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nature's Variety has expanded its recall of chicken-flavored pet food because of concerns over salmonella. The Lincoln, Neb.-based company said Monday that the raw, frozen food is being recalled because it could be contaminated with salmonella. The recall includes three-pound packages of chicken medallions, six-pound packages of chicken patties and two-pound packages of chicken chubs. Initially, the company recalled only packages with a best-by date of Nov. 10, 2010.

If you have a favorite food--or one you just hate--check with your mom. Researchers say fetal taste buds are mature by 13 to 15 weeks- and the flavor and odors of what mothers eat show up in fluid swallowed by the fetus..and also in breast milk. Now researchers suggest doing some pre-natal work, developing a baby's palate to like food that's good for them, in hopes of warding off obesity and diabetes later in life. A new study finds there's a biological component to why we like some foods and dislike others and those genes determine whether you like a smell or not.
