Kansas State will open its 2011-12 season this Friday night at home against Charleston Southern. The Wildcats won their exhibition matchup against Fort Hays State 90-60 this past Sunday. Frank Martin's team had 5 players in double-figures scoring with freshamn Angel Rodriguez leading the way with 15 points. Rodriguez was a perfect 3-3 from the three point line while Will Spradling was 2-5 from beyond the arc. The Buccaneers and Wildcats tip off at 7:10 pm this Friday night at Bramlage Coliseum.

Senior forward Jamar Samuels has been suspended for three games for violation of team rules, head coach Frank Martin announced today. "Jamar understands that student-athletes at K-State have expectations and there are consequences when you don't live up to those expectations. However, I have been pleased with how he has handled his obligations since this setback and I expect this to continue. " The suspension will cover today's exhibition game against Fort Hays State as well as the first two regular season contests against Charleston Southern on Nov. 11 and Loyola Chicago on Nov. 14.

Fighting for its season the, suddenly red hot Fort Hays State softball team put up 20 runs, to easiley win a double header with Truman State. In game one, Fort Hays State scored six runs in the first and third innings en route to the 12-0 win in five innings. The Tigers hit four home runs in the game. In game two, The Tigers jumped out to a fast start in game two as well, scoring twice in the first and second innings to take an early 4-0 lead. They added three in the fourth and then Adriana Wortley ended the doubleheader in the fifth with a solo home run, her third homer of the afternoon.

The Fort Hays State football team jumped out to an early lead, but had to hold on in the end defeating Lincoln (Mo.) by a score of 24-21 in Jefferson City, Mo., on Saturday (Oct. 1). Fort Hays State looked to be running away with the game early up 14-0 right out of the gates, but the offense sputtered for the rest of the game, allowing Lincoln to hang around and make it interesting in the end. Fort Hays State moved to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA, while Lincoln dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State opened 7-of-7 from the field and never looked back as it defeated Truman by a score of 76-57 on Wednesday evening. The Tigers never trailed and moved to 15-6 overall and 9-6 in the MIAA with the win. Truman fell to 6-17 overall and 4-12 in the MIAA. All five starters for FHSU scored in double figures, led by Omar McDade with 16 points. He was 5-of-9 from the field, which included a 4-of-6 effort beyond the 3-point line. Moses Dayee also canned four 3-point field goals to finish with 14 points.

Fort Hays State made a giant leap in the national rankings on Tuesday (Dec. 6) from No. 24 in the nation to No. 10. The Tigers are in the top 10 for the third consecutive year. Fort Hays State is out to a 7-0 start, 1-0 in the MIAA, and hosts Washburn on Wednesday night in the MIAA home opener. This is the largest one-week leap between regular season polls the Tigers have ever experienced in NCAA Division II. The previous largest leap between regular season polls was over the last two years, when FHSU jumped eight spots from No. 22 to No. 14 in 2009-10 and No. 14 to No. 6 in 2010-11.

The No. 8 ranked Fort Hays State men's basketball team suffered its first road loss of the season on Wednesday night at Central Missouri. Red-hot shooting by the Mules, coupled with Fort Hays State's poorest offensive performance of the season, resulted in a 78-40 loss for the Tigers. Fort Hays State is now 10-2 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA. Central Missouri, now 8-4 overall and 4-3 in the MIAA, never trailed in the game and built a lead of 18 points at halftime by a score of 38-20.

Fort Hays State held tight with No. 8 ranked Pittsburg State for two and a half quarters on a rainy, damp night for Homecoming in Hays. However, two key turnovers by the Tigers in the third quarter led to Pittsburg State seizing control of the game, on its way to a 38-17 win over FHSU. The Gorillas remained perfect on the year at 6-0, 5-0 in the MIAA, while Fort Hays State fell to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA. Down a touchdown at the half, Fort Hays State made things interesting by knotting things with a touchdown on the first drive of the second half.

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team was handed their first loss of the 2011-12 season on Wednesday night by the No. 15 Washburn Lady Blues. Washburn shot 47.3% from the floor and outrebounded the Lady Tigers by 18 and dropped FHSU to 7-1 on the year and 1-1 in MIAA play. The first half was played very quickly, with both teams staying within five points of each other including four ties and three lead changes. Fort Hays State took an early five point lead at 11-6 on a 3-pointer from Kelsie Sorenson, but Washburn quickly came back and took a lead of their own with a 9-0 run that put them up 23-18 with just over five minutes to go in the half.

Fort Hays State led from start to finish in a 70-57 win over Lincoln in the MIAA Tournament Opening Round on Tuesday evening in Hays. Now at 21-6 overall, Fort Hays State, the No. 6 seed, will play No. 3 seed Northeastern State in the quarterfinals on Friday at 8:15 pm at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. Fort Hays State opened the game on a 13-0 run and led by double figures all the way until halftime. The Lady Tigers led by as many as 18 in the opening half, but the Blue Tigers cut the lead down to 11, 39-28 at halftime.
