Jeff Francoeur's RBI single in the 10th inning lifted Kansas City to a 2-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Thursday night, snapping the Royals' five-game losing streak with their seventh walkoff win. Greg Holland (1-0), called up from Triple-A Omaha hours earlier, pitched 1 1-3 innings for his first major league win. Melky Cabrera hit a one-out single off Darren Oliver (1-5) in the 10th, his third hit of the night, and sped to third when Eric Hosmer singled into right for his third hit. Cody Eppley then relieved and gave up the game-winner to Francoeur.

Alex Gordon belted a three-run homer and the Kansas City Royals roughed up Charlie Furbush, then weathered Luke Hochevar's struggles in a 13-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night. Alcides Escobar drove in three runs and scored three times forthe Royals, who led 9-2 after three innings. Melky Cabrera and Billy Butler had two RBIs apiece. Hochevar struggled with the big lead and was battered for six runs before he was yanked in the fourth. Greg Holland (3-1) wiggled out of trouble to earn the victory, and Everett Teaford kept Detroit off the scoreboard for the final three innings in a game that began in 90-degree heat and took 3 hours, 24 minutes to finish.

Kansas City Royals closer Joakim Soria will undergo reconstructive elbow surgery and will miss the season. The surgery is scheduled for April 3. Soria made the decision Friday after being examined by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. for a third opinion. He had already been diagnosed with right elbow ligament damage by the Royals physicians and Dr. Lewis Yocum, who will perform the surgery in Los Angeles. Soria left the game Sunday against Cleveland with pain in his elbow.

The Kansas City Royals have reinstated right-handed reliever Greg Holland from the 15-day disabled list. The team also optioned right-hander Nate Adcock to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday. Holland is 0-2 with an 11.37 ERA in seven appearances. He last pitched on April 20 when he gave up three runs on three hits and two walks without recording an out. He was placed on the DL April 21 with a left rib stress reaction. Adcock made three relief appearances for Kansas City since being called up at the end of April, allowing three runs in 9 1-3 innings.

Alcides Escobar hit a pair of homers off Jake Peavy, the second a go-ahead shot with two outs in the seventh inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 6-3 Saturday night.     The 25-year-old shortstop had just two homers all season and 11 in his career before he connected for a two-run shot off Chicago's All-Star right-hander in the third inning.     White Sox slugger Adam Dunn homered and Dayan Viciedo hit an RBI triple in the sixth to tie it at 3, but Escobar doubled up against Peavy (7-6)

Elliot Johnson homered against his former team and the Kansas City Royals rallied from an early five-run hole, beating the Tampa Rays 9-8 on a cold, blustery Wednesday night. Lorenzo Cain and Jeff Francoeur each drove in a pair of runs for the Royals, who trailed 5-0 in the third inning before slowly chipping away at the Tampa Bay lead. Luke Hochevar allowed three hits in seven shutout innings Saturday night and the Kansas City Royals scored three first-inning runs off Chris Sale to beat the Chicago White Sox 5-0. Hochevar (3-3) cruised as the White Sox mustered only one real scoring threat against him all night. That came in the second on a walk and single by Alex Rios before Alexei Ramirez hit into a double play. Hochevar walked one and struck out five, and his strong effort came after two rough outings against Detroit and New York Yankees when he surrendered a total of 19 hits and 16 runs in 6 1-3 innings.

Salvador Perez also hit a two-run homer for the Royals, who won their sixth straight against the White Sox. Chicago hit three home runs: Alexei Ramirez hit a two-run shot and Dewayne Wise and A.J. Pierzynski hit solo shots homers. Kelvin Herrera (2-2) pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning for the Royals.

Mauer, a career .359 hitter at Kauffman Stadium, led off the 11th with a double off Jonathan Broxton (1-2) and he scored on Josh Willingham's groundball single to right. Casey Fien (1-0) worked two perfect innings to pick up his first major-league victory. Glen Perkins worked around Alcides Escobar's leadoff double in the bottom of the inning to pick up his fifth save in eight opportunities.

After watching the Royals rally from a seven-run deficit to force extra innings, the Indians' Shin-Soo Choo hit a two-run double with two outs in the 10th, giving Cleveland an 11-9 victory in a testy affair marked by three ejections and a pair of bench-clearings.
