Wichitans who live in the Planeview neighborhood on the southeast part of town welcome a new grocery store Wednesday. The Save-A-Lot Store at George Washington boulevard and Pawnee opened to customers after a ribbon cutting ceremony in the morning. Until now, residents didn't have many options in the area for a discount grocery store. It also employs 25 people, which is also a help to the community You may remember a similar store was planned for the Planeview area, but those plans were scrapped when the developer didn't get tax incentives.

Basic necessities will soon be easier to access for some Wichita residents. A new grocery store will open in Planeview in November. The Save-A-Lot store broke ground Wednesday at George Washington Boulevard and Pawnee. It's the same spot where developers once asked for taxpayer money to help build the store. But the new developer says that help is no longer needed. A turn of the dirt is going to turn over a new opportunity for those living in Planeview. "Now I can walk across the street and go to the grocery store. It makes a lot of difference for me," said Stanley Beard. That's because right now to buy food, he has to walk a long way. "I have to walk clear to Pawnee and Broadway which I could hardly do with my bad leg," he said.

A small community launches a campaign to get its residents to buy more toilet paper locally. It's part of a Buy Local campaign from the Cheney Chamber of Commerce. But why concentrate on toilet paper? It's a simple idea, encourage residents to buy toilet paper locally. And while they're there they'll purchase other items, too. All to help keep local dollars in local pockets. "I read another chamber in Iowa had the idea and seeing it I thought, 'Gosh, that's so simple that everyone could do this,'" said Danielle Young, secretary of the Cheney Chamber of Commerce.
