The Campus High School swim team presented a check for mroe than $5,000 to a local Make-a-Wish student. Sydney Joorabchi is a jr. high student in Haysville. She will use the money to go to Disney World. The five-member swim team swam 100 miles earlier this month to raise money for Sydney. Each of them swimming a mile at a time in relay-race form. They say they never expected to raise as much as they did, and they're happy it is going to a good cause. Sydney says it's nice to know people are thinking about her, even if they don't know her. ------- Friday March 1, 2013 They started swimming Friday, and won't stop all weekend.

A Haysville family is picking up the pieces of their lives after their home was destroyed by fire. The fire started near 79th street and South Meridian Friday. Now the family says, they're trying to pick up the pieces of their lives and get through the holidays. As Penny Felt digs through what's left of her house, she's keeping a unique perspective. "You know, you gotta laugh, to keep from crying, you gotta laugh. I mean, it's just stuff. It's just stuff," she says laughing.

One person is treated for smoke inhalation after a house fire in Haysville. Firefighters from Wichita, Sedgwick County and McConnell arrived to smoke and flames coming from a home in the 700 block of W. Chelsea at around 1 p.m. on Friday. Fire investigators say the fire started in the basement of the home and went up to the outside rear of the home. Most of the roof burned in the fire too. A dog that was thought to be missing was found. No other injuries were reported.

Two large groups assembled outside Campus High School Thursday afternoon. One group led by parents contends bullying is a major problem at the school, because the administration doesn't punish bullies as they should. The other group consists strictly of students who say the school does take bullying very seriously, and it's not a major problem. Earlier this week, parents of a Haysville student posted on Facebook about their daughter being bullied. They say she's in the hospital after being bullied.

Police in Haysville are still looking for the man who robbed a bank in Haysville Tuesday morning. It happened at the Community Bank of Wichita at 371 N. Main Street in Haysville. Police say the man walked in and handed the teller a note demanding money. He then fled in an unknown direction with an unknown amount of cash. Police are looking for a white male in his late 40s to 50s, 5'10" to 6 feet tall and around 200 pounds. He was wearing gray beanie, sunglasses a gray hooded sweatshirt with the sleeves cut off and yellow writing and jeans.

Fall is here and so are fun activities all around the state. The anchors from Eyewitness News This Morning head south of Haysville to Bergmann's Corn Maze and Pumpkin Farm for some fun. “They're all totally, totally melted down to the ground. They're, they're destroyed,” said Larry Boyer about an overnight garage fire that destroyed five high performance vehicles, including at least one classic Camaro, at his next door neighbor's house. The Haysville blaze was the talk of the neighborhood this morning. It began around midnight in the 100 block of South Lamar. “They called me last night and said that they had heard an explosion during the night,” said Jim Fahrbach, whose daughter escaped the fire with her family.

A woman and her daughter are hurt after the scooter they were riding crashed in Haysville Tuesday afternoon. The accident happened on East 87th Street, east of Meridian. Investigators says the woman lost control on the railroad tracks. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Her 12 yr. old daughter has potentially serious injuries. Officials don't know if the woman was speeding, but say the tracks make that area rough even for cars.

Newman University has been awarded $100,000 grant from the Kansas State Department of Education. The university will use the Title IIB Mathematics/Science Partnership Grant to help teachers in the Wichita and Haysville school districts strenghten their teaching skills. The grant is approved for one year, and if proven effective has the potential to be renewed for two additional years. The money will be used to implement the Using Mathematical Practices to Understand Content (UMPUC)

A man says he was carjacked in west Wichita and dropped off in Haysville over the weekend. The man told police he was driving around 13th and Zoo Boulevard around 8:30 Saturday evening when two men approached his car. He says the men forced their way into his car, duct taped his wrists, covered his face and put him in the back seat. The man told officers he was driven to the area of 77th St. S. and Hydraulic in Haysville and dumped out of the car. Haysville police found the man walking around that area.
