Fire damaged a vacant Haysville home early Monday morning. Crews were called to the home in the 300 block of north Baughman around six o'clock Monday morning. According to our news partners at KFDI radio, when firefighters arrived, they found flames shooting through the back door of the home and fire burning through parts of the roof. Fire officials say crews had to cut through the length of the roof to get the fire under control. Investigators say the home had been vacant for at least a month.

A Haysville father has pleaded guilty to setting his step daughter on fire.  Chris Newberry also pleaded guilty to one count of rape and five counts of arson.  Prosecutors added the new count of rape today. Newberry was charged with one count of Attempted Murder in the fire in March of 2009.  His 10-year-old step-daughter was badly burned in that fire.  She is now recovering.  HEr grandmother said the girl now wants to be an Olympic runner.  "She loves school, she loves riding her bike.

Seven people who were taken to the hospital after being exposed to chlorise gas are back home tonight, and Haysville officials are calling it an unusual accident. Hazmat crews were called to the Haysville Pool where nearly 300 people were celebrating National Night Out. The city says Tuesday's record high temperatures caused the pool system's to pump in more chlorine and the high humidity was also causing the gas to get caught in the atmosphere. People at the pool were breathing in the gas and people who live nearby say the smell was overwhelming.

A malfunction in the pump room at the Haysville pool causes a chlorine leak. Several people reported a shortness of breath and a sick feeling. The leak happened Tuesday night during Haysville's National Night Out. Emergency crews set up triage in the concession area. Paramedics took several patients to Wichita hospitals. The Haysville Heat rallied in the 8th and 9th innings to overtake the Chillicothe Mudcats, 6-4 at the NBC World Series, Monday night. Haysville led 1-0 in the third inning, before letting the Mudcats level the score by walking in a run. Chillicothe scored one in the 5th and two in the 6th to take a 4-1 lead, before letting it slip away. The Heat will play the winner of the Valley Center/San Diego game on Tuesday. The Derby Twins couldn't re-capture the magic of their first win, getting trampled by the Sedalia Bombers from Missouri, 15-4.

(WICHITA, Kan.) The Haysville school district wants your business, and it's not afraid to go after it. "We had the direct mail, TV, radio and Internet," says Superintendent Dr. John Burke. Burke says in these economic times schools have to change. "I believe schools need to be innovative and entrepreneurial at all times and right now especially they have to be that way. " The district sent out 45,000 mailers to surrounding town advertising "limited" open enrolment.

By Kara Sewell (HAYSVILLE, Kan.) Passing by, it looks like typical construction.  But all the dirt and digging on South Meridian is actually a makeover. Not on the road but the ditch alongside the road. Map of Ditch Area The ditch is supposed to drain water from retention ponds in the area but it's filled with tree limbs and debris preventing water from getting through. After heavy rains in April, some residents in the area experienced flooding because the ditch was clogged.

It was hard, it was gut wrenching to see your friends and neighbors thrown under," says Tim Norton. Each memory is a little different. But talking about the Haysville tornado evokes the same feeling. Ten years ago the city was ripped apart by an F4 tornado, six died.

Life in Haysville changed ten years ago Sunday, but you'd hardly know from looking at the city today. On the evening of May 3, 1999, a massive F-4 tornado ripped through the city's business district. The tornado killed six people in Sedgwick and Sumner counties. The tornado hurt more than 150 people. The tornado hurt more than 150 people and left thousands more homeless. The storm left a 17-mile path of destruction and caused nearly $150 million in damage. Vice-President Al Gore toured Haysville three days after the storm hit, comforting victims many of whom lost everything.
