Aside from the fact we need rain, we have excellent travel weather across Kansas and much of the central US leading up to Thanksgiving. High pressure will keep the winds light and the skies clear through Tuesday. Overnight lows will be in the mid 30s west/near 40 in Wichita. Sunny skies and highs near 70 will be common Tuesday. South winds will be less than 20 mph and should make for a beautiful day. Record wamth will be a strong possibility for Wednesday with gusty south winds and highs above 70 for much of the area.

A quiet weather pattern has developed over Kansas with a slow moving Canadian high pressure system dominating much of the Midwest. Hurricane Sandy off the East Coast, is blocking the normal progression of storm systems across Kansas this week. The end result will be dry weather and a slow warming trend. Sunshine and high clouds will be the rule of thumb today. After a cold start, temperatures should warm nicely. Highs will be in the upper 50s and low 60s. Tonight another cold night, however most areas should remain just above freezing.

A cold front will make its way to the southeast, into Wichita this afternoon. Highs will be in the 60s and 70s. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies will be the rule with gusty north winds behind the front. Winds will diminish this evening under mostly clear skies. An area of high pressure will slip down into Kansas, so lows will drop to the 30s. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies will once again be the rule on Wednesday with highs mostly in the 60s. Rain and storm chances will creep back into the forecast late Thursday into Friday and Saturday.

Monday afternon highs should top out around 100 degrees under a mostly sunny sky along with fairly low humidity. Call it a dry heat. Kansas winds will be out of the south or southeast around 15 to 20 mph with a few higher gusts. Look for more heat Tuesday but a weak area of low pressure will slowly slide into our area from the northwest bringing increasing clouds and scattered showers and storms by evening and into the overnight hours. The activity will be widely scattered so most areas will probably miss out on any significant moisture.

Some rainfall reports for the 24 hour period ending at 7 A.M. Sunday . Wichita (Mid-Continent Airport) 0.28", Wichita (Jabara Airport - NE Wichita) Trace, Winfield - 0.40", Cambridge - 0.45", Mount Hope - 0.02", Norwich - 0.22", Coffeyville - 0.80", Sedan - 0.84". Not enough to put a dent in the drought, however anything and everything is a welcome relief. In the wake of this cold front, a high pressure center over Iowa will influence our weather today bringing a return of sunshine and a pleasant afternoon. Highs will range from the upper 80s in northeast Kansas, to the mid 90s in the south. Clear skies and light winds across central and eastern Kansas tonight will result in a relatively "cool" start to Monday morning, as overnight lows fall into the low and middle 60s. The "heat" returns Monday afternoon and continues through the week, however the oppressive 100 degree "heat wave" appears to be over for now. Highs should remain at or below 100 degrees the entire week.
