(WICHITA, Kan.) While the nation watched the U.S. men's hockey team go for gold against Canada Sunday afternoon, some members of the Wichita Thunder were watching old teammates. Players like Thunder captain Chris McAllister, who spent six seasons in the NHL, competed against several players on Team USA and Team Canada's rosters. Forwards Brad Thompson and Paul Kelly both had college teammates make the American team. "It's great to see guys that you know succeeding like that and playing for the best thing in the world," says Kelly.

By Kim Hynes (WICHITA, Kan.) The ice is melting and the equipment is gone. Hockey will no longer be played at the Kansas Coliseum. Monday the Wichita Thunder packed its gear for a move to the Intrust Bank Arena. Three Thunder employees and a moving truck were in charge of loading up 18 years worth of stuff. "There's a lot of crap. You accumulate so much after so many years," said Equipment Manager Brad Brungardt. He didn't realize how much they had tucked into every square inch of the facility.

by Cliff Judy (WICHITA, Kan.) If you haven't started stockpiling for this year's winter weather yet, you're not alone. Local stores tell Eyewitness News most shoppers wait for bad weather to hit before getting supplies. So far at the Williams Ace Hardware store at Central and Woodlawn, the ice melt and snow shovels are all fully stocked. Some people like Ed Titus say they've learned from the 2005 ice storm in Kansas. Titus says he didn't hesitate to buy a generator and stockpile supplies after experiencing the region-crippling storm.

Sales of ice cream are expected to top $4 billion this year. That's a lot of scoops. But what if you want to cut back on calories? Consumer Reports just pitted several full-fat ice creams against their lighter versions to see how they compare. Consumer Reports taste-tested three favorite flavors, the light versions as well as the full fat. Included: Ben & Jerry's Phish Food, Breyers Butter Pecan, and Edy's (called Dreyer's west of the Rocky Mountains) Mint Chocolate Chip.

I love to try new things. And I love the sports in Wichita. WSU is great, so is the Wichita Wild indoor football team and the soon-to-be Wichita Wingnuts. Right now it's hockey season though, and the Wichita Thunder is turning the season around. I've been to a number of their games and love them. The guys on the team make it look so easy. I wanted to see if I could do it too, so I went to one of their practices, suited up and hit the ice.

It's not what you might think at first. "Looks like a hamster ball or guinea pig ball," said one of the Girl Scouts we enlisted to test the Ice Cream Revolution. You fill the ball with ice cream ingredients...then play with it for a little while. It all started 30 minutes earlier with a kid friendly recipe, sugar mixed into cream with a little vanilla for flavor. All of that goes into the small inner cylinder of the ball. Ice and rock salt go on the outside of the cylinder.
