It looks like the NIT may be the next destination for the Wichita State Shockers after losing to Indiana State 61-54 in the semifinal round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Much like the first half, the Shockers could not avoid a sluggish period, allowing Indiana State to go on a 15-5 run in a span of 8:21.  In that time, the Shockers went from down two to down ten.  It left a hole that was simply too big for Gregg Marshall's team to climb out of. The Shockers were led in scoring by J.T. Durley, who finished with 18 points.

Tonight the Wichita State Shockers take a one-game Valley lead into Terre Haute to face Indiana State. The Shockers lost to the Sycamores in Koch arena earlier this season, 68-55. That game started a three game losing streak for the Shockers which took them from being ranked 15th in the nation to being unranked. It was the Sycamores penetration on offense and their zone defense that stymied the Shockers in the first matchup of these two teams this season. Indiana State is 13-2 this season when holding opponents to 63 points or less.

I will never understand how a division one athlete-- who's good enough to have his college education paid for-- can commit a foul on three-point point shot.  Especially in a game when you lead by seven points with 0:37 seconds left.  Fortunately, Cleanthony Early hit two late free throws to seal the deal at Indiana State. Shockers rallying Four straight wins now, but back to back wins against two of the Valley's best with just one days rest in between.  That's pretty impressive stuff and with it the Shocks are just a win away over Evansville at home from clinching no worse than a tie for their second straight Valley championship.
