After years of offers, KU Basketball may finally play a game in Wichita.  But that doesn't have Shocker fans expecting a showdown. The Jayhawks could play a game at INTRUST bank arena in December, against The University of Southern California Trojans. The teams first met in 2010, and KU beat USC 70-68 in Allen Fieldhouse.  It is USC's turn to host,  but it's venue holds almost 5,000 fewer people than the 15,000 seat Intrust Bank Arena. Shocker fans said they would rather see the hometown team take on KU, instead of a West Coast team.  "It's like, they're snubbing us," said WSU fan Martha Cable.  "It's like, we don't know you guys are there, so we're bringing in another team.

For the first time in more than 50 years, Wichita State will play a men's basketball game in downtown Wichita. Wichita State's Athletic Director announced Wednesday the Shockers will play Tulsa at INTRUST Bank Arena. “This is a partnership opportunity for WSU, Sedgwick County and the City of Wichita for the Shockers to play basketball in a great venue," said AD Eric Sexton in a news release. "INTRUST Bank Arena must also host a Division I basketball game this year as part of these same partners bringing the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament event to Wichita in the spring, so the Tulsa game made sense for a lot of reasons.

EMS workers treated two women attending the Keith Urban concert Tuesday night.  The women were in the front row of the lower level when they fell four feet to the ground below. The arena's general manager says the women were leaning against a railing when the railing buckled.  The women then fell, hurting themselves. The railing was bolted down but it's not permanent in that specific spot.  The arena moves the railings around depending on the set up for a particular event.

The 5A and 6A State Wrestling tournament draws thousands of people. This year it is at Hartman Arena, which is a lot smaller than last year's venue, the INTRUST Bank Arena . Despite the smaller size, tournament officials say Hartman is actually a better fit. "We were worried about the size. It doesn't seat as many people, but it turns out it is a better environment for the kids," said KSHSAA official Rick Bowden. So do coaches. Chris Wyant says Intrust officials wouldn't let him bring food for his athletes last year.

Intrust Bank Arena made more than $1 million less in the second quarter this year than in the second quarter of last year. Assistant County Manager Ron Holt says the changes come with a very different year for the arena and concert business. 2010 was the opening year for the arena, when Holt says it did phenomenal business. In a presentation to Sedgwick County Commissioners this morning, Holt said between April 2011 and June 2011 the arena brought in just shy of $1.1 million, but its costs were $61,342 more.

For the first time since it opened, the INTRUST Bank Arena is in the red. The third quarter financial report was released Wednesday, and it shows the arena's net income through September is -$219,417. But arena management SMG and the county aren't concerned. "This year has just been a slower year for the concert industry as a whole", said General Manager A.J. Bolinski. The arena only had one concert and 4 other events in its third quarter, which impacted ticket sales.
