The iPad made quite a splash when it came out earlier this year. And it has dominated the market ever since. But competition is heating up. Consumer Reports just tested several new tablets to see whether any of them give the iPad a run for the money. Included in the tests were the Samsung Galaxy Tab and less-expensive tablets, including one sold at Walgreens. The iPad is the most expensive tablet computer, ranging in price from $500 to more than $800. But you get a lot of bang for your buck.

I thought it was going to be called the iPad HD, but Apple is calling the third-generation of iPads, "The New iPad. " For the most part, the New iPad features a faster processing chip, a higher resolution display and a higher megapixel camera. Other than that, it's really not that different from the iPad 2. The screen size is the same, the hard-drive size options are the same, and the design is exactly the same. The only difference is the guts of the device. The New iPad runs on a A5X procecessor, which promises easier multi-tasking and faster load times.

More parents are picking their kids up from school in Derby. "It's a little difficult," said parent Krista Rush. But difficult times led the Derby School District to stop bussing students who living within 2.5 miles of school. For many students walking isn't an option because they'd have to cross rail road tracks and K-15 to get to school. The bus cuts are saving the district $30,000. "It is what it is, they have to do what they have to do to keep things going. We don't like it," said parent Troy Dean.

With the announcement of iOS 5 at Monday's Worldwide Developer's Conference, Apple seems to have the netbook set squarely in its sights. Netbooks were debuted a few years ago. They're smaller computers with wireless internet capabilities. They're smaller in size and hard drive space. They seemed to be popular, because it's ideal for people who just use computers for email, light web browsing and word processing. But ever since the debut of the iPad, people who might've been interested in buying a netbook were instead buying tablets.

This week, Amazon officially entered the tablet market by announcing that the Kindle Fire will be available in time for Christmas. It's an ebook and emagazine reader, a media player, a web browser and it runs on Android. It's cheaper than most other tablets, $199, and is smaller than the iPad at 7". It also comes with a free month of Amazon Prime, which allows users to stream TV shows and movies and get free shipping on certain products. There's no doubt in my mind that this device will be extremely popular, and will help increase the popularity of Amazon Prime.

There's a few things that Apple fans and followers are hoping and/or to expecting to see from them on October 4. It's being billed as the “Let's Talk iPhone” event. One of the most anticipated announcements is the iPhone 5. There's been a lot of speculation as to what this will look like and what it will do. As for esthetics, we can probably expect it to have a slightly larger screen and a curved back. The rumor mill is also churning with the hope that Apple will release iPhones with larger hard drives, faster processors, higher resolution screens and a phone that can do just about everything except the dishes and laundry.
