Just two races are left until we crown a Sprint Cup Champion. And it looks like we will have a new champion for the first time in five seasons. Five time champ Jimmie Johnson is 55 points behind leader Carl Edwards in sixth place. A lot of drivers would have a pair of disastrous races for five time to become six time. Which is just one of the reasons that the drama will be cranked up as NASCAR heads to the desert. Also adding to the intrig is that no one knows what to expect at the Phoenix International Raceway.

I never saw Richard Petty put a hurtin' on the field. I never saw the sly ole Silver Fox outsmart the competition and DW busting out the "Icky Shuffle" Is just a piece of tape to me that they bust out each Daytona 500. Being a relatively new fan to the sport, I've missed a lot. But I have been lucky enough to see stock car greatness, thanks to Jeff Gordon. With his win Tuesday at Atlanta, Gordon moved into third on the all-time win list. Let's put this into perspective, it is so hard to win these days.

Weren't we just in Pocono? Not like just last week, but we were there about a month and a half ago. It's something about the NASCAR schedule that I never quite seemed to understand, the two Pocono races have always seemed to be too close to each other. I mean I get it. You don't want to be in Talladega or Phoenix or even here in Kansas in the heat of the summer, so Pocono's two dates kind of get shoved together. I still seems odd. None the less, here we go, back to Pocono.

It's a car that normally travels very fast, but Wednesday it was standing still right here in Wichita. The Jeff Gordon NASCAR show car was on display at the Dillon's at Central and Rock Rd. The four time NASCAR champion has a new sponsor this year, the AARP foundation and its drive to end hunger. The AARP Wednesday presented the Kansas Food Bank with a $10,000 check. Gordon's car was on hand from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for fans to see and photograph.

One of my favorite coaches out here in Western Kansas always talks about how much the media loves streaks. It's be this long since you beat this team, you haven't won here since this year. He's also quick to point out that we more often talk about those bad streaks. It's a concept that Jeff Gordon is probably pretty familiar with. It's been long enough since Gordon won a race, that new fans might have thought that his middle name was Gordon, and his last name was "who hasn't won in x amount of races.

After a 66 race absence the 24 went back in victory lane Sunday in Phoenix. Jeff Gordon avoided a crash filled Subway Fresh Fit 500, leading the most laps to pick up his 83rd career Sprint Cup victory. The win moves Gordon into a tie for 5th all-time on the Sprint Cup victory list, tied with Cale Yabrough. One more will move him into a tie with Darrell Waltrip and Bobby Allison for third. For his team Hendrick Motorsports its the 7th win in 9 races at Phoenix. "It feels so amazing," said Gordon.
