Attorney General Steve Six has announced that the backlog in processing DNA arrestee samples has been reduced by 70% and will be completely eliminated by February, 2011. Six made the announcement during a press conference Wednesday morning in Topeka.  He says eliminating the backlog will allow forensic scientists at the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to address new DNA samples as they are submitted. The Kansas Attorney General has filed criminal charges against 35-year-old Brett Seacat in the death of his wife, 34-year-old Vashti Seacat. Vashti Seacat died when her home caught fire April 30.  Her husband and their two young sons made it out safely. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation helped in the investigation and late Friday afternoon the Attorney General's office filed the following charges: Murder in the First Degree Aggravated Arson Aggravated Endangering a Child (2 counts)

Dozens gathered in Kingman Thursday night to mourn the loss of a woman they knew and loved.  "It's been hard, it's been really tough.  All I can say is she's a good person," said Gayle Oller about Vashti Seacat. Thirty-four year-old Seacat died early Saturday morning after her home caught fire.  Her husband and two young sons made it out safely.  The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is now investigating the fire and how Seacat died.  "It's sad when somebody is young, as full of life as she was and we lose them this early and in such a manner.

The Kansas Attorney General's office announced Thursday a jury found Bradley Todd Anderson, age 42, of Glade, guilty of four counts of rape, two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, five counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count of battery, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced. The crimes occurred between 2002 and 2009. Four of the charges were prosecuted under the provisions of Jessica's Law. The case was tried before Judge Preston A. Pratt of the 17 th Judicial District in the Phillips County Courthouse.

A Scott City man is sentenced to more than five years in prison for electronic solicitation. The Kansas Attorney General's office says 26-year-old Nicholas Anderson was sentenced to 61 months in prison on two charges. The sentence will run concurrently. Anderson pleaded guilty to electronic solicitation in July. The AG's office says the charges stem from an investigation by both the KBI and the Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center.

Decatur County's first murder trial in more than a decade ends with a jury convicting a man of second-degree murder. Dylan Coryell was charged in the Oct. 2011 shooting death of Corey Cook. Prosecutors say Coryell shot Cook in the face as he slept. The shooting also injured a woman in the home. The Kansas Attorney General's Office says the jury also found two aggravating factors in the case, which will be taken into account during sentencing, which is set for June 17.
