A head on crash involving a semi in Kingman County has turned deadly. It happened on U.S. 54, about eight miles west of Kingman. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Justin Adams, 31, of Missouri, was driving east on Highway 54, when he lost control on a curve, striking a semi head on. Adams was flown to a Wichita hospital where he later died. The driver of the semi, Lynn Andrews, of Missiouri was not hurt. A passenger, James Meadows, 71, of Missouri, suffered serious injuries.

A Great Bend man has died after a rollover accident in Kingman County. Emergency crews were called to the scene on K-14, about five miles south of Kingman around 2 p.m. Thursday. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Brian Mott, 32, was driving south when his car veered off the west side of the road. He over-corrected, causing the vehicle to rolls several times. Mott was thrown from the car. Investigators said he was not wearing a seat belt.

An elderly woman was driving at South Dam Road and Tuttle Creek Blvd. when another car slammed into the right side of her mini-van. That's when the second car caught fire. Kansas Highway Patrol says 88-year-old Betty Clark was airlifted to a Topeka hospital here she died. The collision happened just after 8:00 Saturday evening. The driver of the second car is from Colorado. Officers couldn't get his insurance papers because the whole car was destroyed by fire, and they were in the glove box. He was not hurt in the wreck.

A 16-year-old girl was killed Friday evening after the SUV she was in hit a deer and rolled off the road Friday evening. This happened near the east end of Walker Bridge in Ellis County. The SUV had 5 people inside, including the driver. The driver saw a deer on I-70 and swerved to avoid it, but hit it anyway. Then the SUV went into the shoulder, over-corrected and rolled off the highway eventually coming to a stop on its roof. Kansas Highway Patrol says 16-year old Hope James died at the scene.

A 59-year-old Smith County man is dead after a crash late Wednesday.  According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, David Beckham of Gaylord, Kansas was headed west on 240th Road when he lost control on a curve near U-281 at around 7:00 pm. KHP says Beckham's Silverado went into a ditch and struck an embankment before coming to rest in a field. He was killed in the crash.  KHP says he was not wearing a seatbelt. A state trooper in southeast Kansas will recover after his patrol car was hit by a semi.  The Highway Patrol posted a picture of the smashed patrol car on its Facebook page. Troopers posted it to serve as a reminder to slow down when roads are slick.  The crash happened while a trooper was sitting in his car after working a non-injury accident in Bourbon County. The KHP says a semi driving down the road lost control on the ice and hit the parked patrol car.  The trooper went to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.  He's since been released from the hospital.

Two people die in two separate crashes on Kansas highways Thanksgiving day. The first crash happened just before noon Thursday on I-70 one mile east of Junction City. That is in Geary County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says John Kaneaster of Abilene was driving westbound on I-70 when he crossed the median, on-coming traffic and went into a ditch. His pick-up hit a tree and rolled on its top. Kaneaster was taken to a hospital where he died. A 13-year-old riding with him was hurt. The second crash happened just before 8:00 Thursday night in Haskell County.

Rollover accidents have more than doubled in Kansas since 1998. Law enforcement say the increase has happened since people started using cell phones while driving. Take a look at some these numbers.   In 1998 more than 1,800 rollover accidents happened in Kansas. In 2003, when people started using cell phones rollover accidents increased to about 4,300. And the most recent numbers from 2008 show an average of 4,100 rollovers a year. Wichita Police Department Lt. Joe Schroeder will tell you electronic devices are increasingly to blame for car accidents.

A pedestrian is hit and killed by an SUV in Goodland late Tuesday night. The accident happened around 10:30 at 17th and Broadway on the Goodland city limits. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a man was driving eastbound on 17th when 46-year-old Jeffrey Badgett walked into the roadway. Badgett died at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.
