From drought conditions to fields too muddy to plant, Kansas farmers like Kent Winter are happy to wait out the rain this spring. So far all the rain has come at just the right time for Central Kansas crops. But that could change if things don't dry out and warm up, at least for a little while. "We'll take the moisture any way we can get it. And it's just a matter of trying to play the hand that we're dealt as best we can," said Winter, who farms wheat, milo , alfalfa and corn in Western Sedgwick County.

The Storm Team 12 weather center is a silent contrast to the noisy newsroom a few yards away. Inside of one of the television studios at the station, bright monitors line the walls, tracking cloud and precipitation patterns that drift across Kansas. Day or night you can find Merril Teller, Ross Janssen, Mark Larson, Rodney Price or Dean Jones quietly studying maps and analyzing data. Click here for weather and behind the scenes photos But when the station first went on the air in 1953, like most TV stations, Channel 12 didn't have a meteorologist.

The one word I heard over and over this weekend at the Kansas Speedway is fast. I know you are saying why is that odd...I mean this is NASCAR not golf...it should be fast. But drivers believe the combination of cooler temperatures new pavement and new car has made the Kansas Speedway really fast. The number of track records that fell over the weekend back me up on this one. Which brings us to Matt Kenseth. Until last fall, he would never be a name that you thought of when you thought Kansas Speedway, but after pretty much owning the track since the repave, how can you think of anyone else?

Winter tries to make one last appearance in Kansas, so try and enjoy the mild weather today. "Big" changes are expected at the start of the work week with colder air and the potential for accumulating snowfall. A few sprinkles and light showers this morning, but during the afternoon, the clouds will thin out, allowing for a little more sun and temperatures climbing into the upper 60s and low 70s. Every single sporting event in this country has been on high alert since the events that have taken place in Boston following the bombing of the Boston Marathon. The STP 400 is no exception as the Kansas Speedway welcomed nearly 70,000 racegoers for the first big event of their season, and everything went off without a hitch. The Kansas Speedway brought in extra personel to check trailers and cars in the infield and bomb sniffing dogs searched campers. Security lines were a little longer than normal but according to racegoers, it was fairly normal for the event.

Matt Crafton charged to the lead in a crash-filled race at Kansas Speedway, and then held off a late run by Joey Coulter to pick up his third career Truck Series victory Saturday. Crafton and Coulter were engaged in a spirited game of cat-and-mouse over the final 20 laps, but Crafton held onto his truck-length lead as they crossed the start-finish line, allowing him to celebrate his first win since Iowa in 2011 with a burnout that tore up one of his rear tires. Coulter chased him across to finish second.

Kansas Speedway and several drivers plan to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings during this weekend's NASCAR races. The track is working with NASCAR on a moment of silence before Sunday's Sprint Cup race to remember the three people killed and more than 170 wounded in Monday's blasts. Michael Waltrip, who ran the Boston Marathon in 2000, plans to honor them with special door numbers painted on his three Sprint Cup entries. The numbers will replicate the style of bib numbers pinned on the nearly 30,000 runners in this year's marathon.
