After a lengthy debate, Sedgwick County Commissioners approve $11.6 million to improve the interchanges at Kellogg and I-235. The funding passed in a 3-2 vote with Commissioners Karl Peterjohn and Richard Ranzau voting against it. Peterjohn and Ranzau both feel the funding is the responsibility of the city. Peterjohn says it's not fair that other county projects won't happen so they can fund what he considers a city project. Ranzau says the city has the money but is choosing to spend it elsewhere. He says the millions being spent on a 13th street bridge to connect to I-235 isn't a priority and the money instead should go towards the interchages at Kellogg.

It's known as one of the worst interchanges in Wichita and in the future could get a complete overhaul. The process is underway to reconstruct the interchange of I-235 and Kellogg. The public was invited to a meeting Wednesday night. Design concepts were unveiled on how to deal with traffic congestion, safety issues and improving overall traffic operations in the area. "I don't think they have a choice if the the west side if going to grow and traffic is going to move," says resident Myron Ewi who drives the interchange twice a day. The project will be divided into four phases. The first phase would build an elevated flyover ramp connecting northbound I-235 to westbound Kellogg. It would also provide a two lane flyover ramp for southbound I-235 to eastbound Kellogg. Phase two would provide flyover ramps connecting eastbound Kellogg to northbound I-235 and westbound Kellogg to southbound I-235.
