A mother wrapped her arms tight around her daughter after she was kidnapped and held against her will for more than half an hour. James Johnson's daughter and another girl managed to get away. "It was terrifying but I calmed her down," Johnson said. "As long as she's safe, we're going skating and going to try to get past this and I'm going to deal with the rest. " The girls were headed home from a gas station near Edgemoor and Harry when the suspect approached them. "They just got hungry and figured they'd walk to Quik Trip in a group and figured they would be safe," he said.

A young girl is still frightened after she was taken against her will Friday night. The 12-year-old girl was walking with two other girls in the 5000 block of E. Harry around 9 p.m. The girls were returning from a nearby convenience store, when the victim said two unknown men approached them. Two of the girls ran away and called for help. But the other girl was missing for 40 minutes. The girl said she managed to get away from her abductor when he turned around to talk to friends.

Hutchinson police have made two arrests in an overnight kidnapping and aggravated battery case. The incident happened around 2-am Friday, at 3200 Garden Grove Parkway. Officers were told by a female victim that she had been forced into one of the apartments at gunpoint, then battered by the armed suspect. They eventually arrested 24 year old Kayla Salyer. She has been charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, two counts of criminal threat and felony interference with law enforcement.

A Kansas man who is already in prison for abducting a store clerk in Viola has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on a bank robbery charge. Forty-two year old Robert D. Abner, pleaded guilty to the June 27, 2008, robbery of the Garden Plain State in Garden Plain, Kansas. During the robbery he brandished what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money before fleeing on foot. The weapon later was determined to be a pellet gun. Abner was arrested in Oregon in July 2008.

In front of the Isely Elementary School Friday afternoon, Wichita Police arrest a man suspected of capital murder. Police say they were following him for about a week for a possible parole violation. A relative of the suspect says he cut off his ankle monitoring bracelet. Police say they spotted the suspect walking down Grove street, then getting into a car, they pulled it over near the school and arrested the suspect. Along with capital murder the suspect is also charged with other crimes including aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

Police arrested a man in Arkansas City for kidnapping Thursday morning. Investigators say a woman and her friend were sitting outside her home when the suspect walked up to their vehicle saying he wanted to kill somebody. The suspect forced his way into the vehicle and told her to drive. The woman was fearful that he might do something to her children who were asleep inside the home so she did what he asked and drove. The woman was able to trick the suspect by telling him that she needed gas in her vehicle so she drove to a local convenient store.

Twenty-year-old Darrius Shugart has made his first appearance in court after what police are calling a Tuesday morning crime spree. Shugart was charged with two counts of kidnapping, aggravated burglary, two counts of attempted aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, criminal discharge of a firearm, aggravated robbery, theft, criminal damage to property and criminal possession of a firearm. Dodge City Police say a man they were looking for in connection with a possible abduction surrendered to police in California. In a news release, the Dodge City Police Chief says Ausberto Baez-Rivera surrendered to officers in Chowchilla, California, early Tuesday morning. It's the same place where his car was found Monday outside his mother's home. Officials say the suspect is being held on a warrant out of Ford County. No word on when he will be sent back to Kansas. ------ Dodge City Police are asking for the publics help in finding a man wanted in a kidnapping.

He's already serving 139 years for kidnapping and raping a convenience store clerk in 2008, now Robert Abner faces bank robbery charges. A federal grand jury in Wichita indicted 42-year-old Robert Abner for the June 27th, 2008 robbery of the Garden Plain State Bank. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years and a fine of up to $250,000. Abner is already in prison serving time for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman who worked at a Viola convenience store. She was released three days later in southeast Wichita.

Salina police say a man tried to kidnap a 21-year-old woman as she delivered copies of The Salina Journal early Monday morning. Police tell our news partners at the Journal, the carrier was walking in the 900 block of Faith Drive when a car approached her. The driver offered her a ride but she refused.
