For four years, Pastor Wade Moore, and the Centre have provided summer lunches to kids through the school districts summer food program. "You see parents that bring their children in and you know that this is the only meal that this child is getting that day," explains Pastor Moore.  Last year the church was among 26 sites kids could go to get breakfast for lunch, Monday through Friday.

Healthy Eating Need some good ideas for a dessert that won't make you feel too guilty? Try angel food cake topped with fresh berries, frozen low-fat yogurt, graham crackers, or pudding made with 1% milk. You should try not to snack in between meals. But if you do, try to eat slowly and savor your snack, and go for nutritional value with things like fruit, veggies, and whole grain products. The next time you have a sweet tooth, instead of reaching for cookies or candy, try a small can of fruit or dried fruit, graham crackers, or a fruit bar. You've tried the leftover turkey sandwich, now try the leftover turkey salad!

Christmas comes a week early for some Wichita-area people. On Tuesday, Episcopal Social Services and its Venture House center fed several hundred people a pre-Christmas meal. Venture House does lunch all during the year, but Tuesday's meal had a more holiday theme. Volunteers worked to serve a big lunch, and also handed out needed items like coats, hats, gloves and socks. And one other thing was on the menu. Barb Andres of Episcopal Social Services tells us "Walgreens are here and are doing flu shots..you know a lot of people don't...they don't go in to get flu shots so we thought let's have them here today for some of the folks that are really vulnerable to the flu and haven't had the opportunity to get a shot".

It was the first Thanksgiving meal they've served ever. 20 volunteers helped put the dinner on. They cooked up 80 pounds of sweet potatoes and green beans and smoked 8 turkeys. "My heart goes out.  They're looked over, they're left out.  We consider them most of the time the least and the lost.  Most people want a hand up, not a handout.  That's what we're here to do, to give them a hand up-  that's what we're here to do-  we're here to help them to do that," said Pastor Steven Shepard.
