It was a Thanksgiving feast for hundreds of people Tuesday night in Wichita. Volunteers from Cross Road Fellowship Bible Church organized the pre-Thanksgiving meal for clients and families of the Arc of Sedgwick County . This is the 10th year of the event. More than 700 people were served meals at the Cotillion. The dinner was followed by a dance. Pre-Thanksgiving Meal & Dance.

Wichita public schools will be offering free food for children as part of a summer program. The free breakfasts and lunches will be available for children 18 years old and younger at 37 locations across Wichita. Some sites will offer meals throughout the length of the program, while others will offer meals sometime during those months. Some locations will offer both breakfast and lunch, while others will offer only one meal and seven sites will offer an afternoon snack. Peanut butter crackers and water. It's not what many would consider a complete meal. But that's what some Wichita school students are eating for lunch when they're behind on their meal accounts. Some parents call it unfair. But the district says, it can only allow students to charge lunches for so long. In 2009, parents owed 23-thousand-dollars in unpaid lunches. Eight-year-old Shelby can breeze through her math homework. But there's one problem her mom, Jennifer Burton, can't figure-out.

Feed yourself...and feed the hungry. That's the idea behind the "Feed Wichita" campaign going on today at some area restaurants and businesses. Wichita area Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Blockbuster locations will donate 10% of their total sales today to The Lords Diner. 68 stores in all are participating, organizers hope they can help "Feed Wichita" for at least one month. Thanksgiving is a holiday of tradition going back hundreds of years. It's also appreciated by those who have just been around a few years. For 25 years, Andale teachers have helped kindergarten and first grade students create Thanksgiving magic. That magic comes in the form of a meal, made from scratch. This year, the children and teachers had some extra help, from fire department. A first graders' Thanksgiving.

It was never a breeze for Phil Wylie to make his beloved Malt-O-Meal. "I was tired of taking it out, stirring it and putting it back in, taking it back out, stirring it," Wylie says. "And I still ended up with lumps, and I don't like lumps in my Malt-O-Meal!" Then, this Wellington man came up with a solution. "I've had a number of engineers look at it and shake their head and say, who would have ever thought it would have been that easy?" Wylie says.

School is out for summer, but the needs from hungry students does not take a vacation. To help students stay fed, Wednesday the Wichita School District begins its annual summer food service program. The program provides free breakfasts and lunches to children 18 and younger. Adults can purchase a meal for $3.35. The breakfast will include milk and cereal/bread. The lunch will have an entree, fruit, vegetable and milk. The program starts May 30 and runs through July 27. No reservations are required and there are no qualifying guidelines for those coming to eat. Meals are served at 38 locations around Wichita.
