In the grocery store, standing at the meat case, is probably the most thought you'll give to any one item on your list. But deciding which cut, color or flavor started long before the meat ever made it to the store. "Theres a whole bunch of people behind what you eat," says Janet Bourbon. Many of them work at Cargill Meat Solutions in north Wichita. Katie Porter is a food scientist, she works with pork everyday. "Cooking isn't easy and that's what we're trying to do is we're trying to make it fool proof," says Katie Porter.

1 lb of ground beef 1 lb of ground pork 1 lb of velveta cheese 1 package of cocktail rye bread Brown both the beef and pork together. Drain the fat. Slice the cheese and add to the warm meat. Stir until it's all melted together. Place a spoonful on the cocktail bread. Put in a 350 degree oven for about three to five minutes. Then broil for a few minutes until a little crispy.

Despite rising grocery prices, Americans are putting almost half the food they buy into the trash. A study by the Natural Resources Defense Council found 40% of food gets tossed out. In the US, that comes to $165 billion in uneaten food. The average family of four wastes more than $2,200 per year. Fruits and vegetables are wasted the most. Seafood, grain products, meat and milk were commonly wasted.

Kansas Congressman Tim Huelskamp, a member of the House Committee on Agriculture, and who represents the state's First Congressional District, announced Wednesday that he will serve on the following Agriculture subcommittees during the 112th Congress: House Committee on Agriculture: General Farm Commodities and Risk Management; Conservation, Energy, and Forestry; and Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry. Huelskamp says, "The General Farm Commodities and Risk Management subcommittee will handle matters relating to wheat, feed grains, and soybeans, as well as things like risk management and crop insurance.

A Mexican national illegally present in the United States who had been working at a meat processing plant in Arkansas City, Kansas has been sentenced to a year in federal prison for using a stolen identity to work at the plant. 26-year old Innocente Munroy Alcantara used the identity of a United States Marine who was stationed overseas at the time, in 2008, to get the job. The Marine, who has asked that his name not be released publicly, upon his return to the U.S. in 2009 started receiving collection calls and letters regarding credit accounts he had not opened.

OSHA has cited Cargill Meat Solutions of Dodge City with two repeat and 23 serious violations for exposing workers to numerous occupational hazards. Proposed fines total $176,400 following a combined safety and health inspection at the facility. OSHA's inspection of the beef processing and packaging company was initiated in November 2010 under the agency's Site-Specific Targeting Program, through which OSHA focuses on employers with higher-than-average occupational injury and illness rates.

A Wichita area farmer says a pack of dogs are responsible for killing six of his goats Thursday morning. He says the dogs got into the goat pen by prying back the bottom corner of the fence. "Somehow they pulled this fence out and crawled between the fence and the gate," Pearson explained. "That's the only way I can see that they got in there. " Four of the young goats were already dead by the time they were scared off. Two others had to be put down by the humaine society.

Wearing pearls, white gloves, hats and pajamas many gathered in College Hill Friday morning to watch the royal wedding. Annette and Tagg Oleson hosted a party at their home in College Hill. Forty-three people showed up at four o'clock in the morning to watch Britain's Prince William marry Kate Middleton. The women weren't the only ones decked out for the party. The men wore suit coats, ties and pajama bottoms. Even the dogs had on either pearl necklaces or a bow tie. Annette grew up in Britain and says she wouldn't have missed today.
