Gary Kleypas was convicted of Capital Murder and sentenced to death in December of 2008. Kleypas raped and killed Carrie Williams in March of 1996 in Pittsburg, Kansas. The Kansas Supreme Court reviewed his initial death sentence and overturned it in 2001. His sentencing case was taken up again in September 2008, when a jury once again recommended the death penalty. Kleypas was on parole for a 1977 murder in Missouri at the time of Williams' murder.

The Big 12 Conference says school leaders have agreed to equally share first- and second-tier television money if its members agree to give the league their TV rights for at least six years. Interim commisioner Chuck Neinas says the vote should be seen as a positive sign for Missouri, which is reportedly considering whether to stay in the conference or join Texas A&M in the Southeastern Conference. Neinas says he plans to visit with Missouri officials this week to state the league's case for staying put, but not before the school's curators meet Tuesday.

Ben McLemore, a 6-foot-5 prep star from St. Louis, has announced that he is coming to Kansas. Kansas had been locked in a battle with Missouri for the high-scoring guard. But when coach Mike Anderson left the Tigers for Arkansas, the door was opened for the Jayhawks. McLemore made his announcement Sunday while surrounded by family, after scoring 14 points in the NeXt All-America Classic in Hoffman Estates, Ill. He said he'd narrowed it down to Kansas and Missouri, and talked to his mother the night before.

For the second-straight night, Wichita (35-17-8) came back from a two-goal deficit to win in a shootout over Missouri (29-23-6) 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Independence Events Center and earned Head Coach Kevin McClelland his 300th career win. Ian Lowe and Todd Griffith scored a pair of goals 36 seconds apart to tie the game in the third period and Lowe scored in round seven of the shootout to help the Thunder stop its road losing skid. The Thunder scored once in the second and once in the third period but couldn't find their late magic and fell to Missouri, 4-2 at INTRUST Bank Arena Friday night. It was the first loss of the season. Wichita (4-1) will travel to Kansas City Saturday to complete the home and away series. Thomas Beauregard was the first to score for the Thunder in the second period. Too bad Missouri was already up 2-0 after big goals in the first. Adam Russo took the loss, stopping 14 of 17 shots.

Bitter rivals will play for the final time in the regular season on Saturday when No. 3 Missouri visits fourth-ranked Kansas. Their series began in 1907, and the Jayhawks lead 171-95 overall. That includes an 88-33 mark in Lawrence, where Kansas has won the last 12 meetings. There's a lot riding on making that 13 in a row. Kansas (23-5, 13-2 Big 12) can earn a share of an eighth straight Big 12 title with a win over the Tigers (25-3, 12-3). For both teams, a win represents bragging rights in perpetuity.

The Wichita Thunder lost 2-1 to the Missouri Mavericks Friday night. The Thunder outshot the opposition for a third time in as many games this season, but went 0 for 8 on the power play in the one-goal loss. Despite a number of quality scoring chances created by the Thunder offense, Missouri scored the first goal of the night at 14:44 in the first period. Oilivier Fillion delivered a shorthanded goal to the left of Marty Magers on an odd-man rush created by Toby Lafrance. Magers made his Thunder debut on Saturday.
