A man from Omaha, Nebraska, dies in a crash in Phillips County Thursday. The crash happened on U.S. Highway 36 about two miles west of Prairie View at around 11:45 in the morning. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 53-year-old Michael Lampe was driving east on the highway, when his van left the road, went into a ditch, then through a fence and hit a tree. Lampe was taken to a Phillips County hospital where he died. The KHP says he was not wearing a seat belt.

When Wichita and Nebraska met last month in Grand Island, Nebraska, the Danger took the 15 point win. But the turn-a-bout would fair play when they made the return trip to Wichita. The two played toe to tow the entire game, but the Wild would have the ball last and back cup quarterback Phil Staback drove the team 90 yards, capping it off with a 14 yard touchdown to Tim Simmon. The score gave the home team a 57-50 victory. Staback and Wild starter Marcus Jackson combined to go for 13-22 for 159 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Johnny Coy went 5-for-5 to lead Wichita State to a 13-2 win over Nebraska. Coy drove in five runs with a home run and a double. Micah Green went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Josh Halbert went 3-for-5, Erik Harbutz went 2-for-5 with two RBI and Tyler Baker went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Starter Tobin Mateychick earned the win. Backup quarterback Marcus Jackson passed for two touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns as the Wichita Wild (2-4) narrowly defeated the Omaha Beef (3-4) 50-47 on Friday night in Omaha. James Chandler knocked home a field goal in the final two minutes of the game that proved to be the difference in the final score. The Beef scored a touchdown with no time left but it wasn't enough as the Wild earned its second win of the season. It was one of three completed field goals by Chandler.

A Nebraska man dies after a collision with a semi Monday afternoon in Jewell County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that the crash happened around 3:00 p.m. on K-14 about five miles north of U.S. 36. Investigators say 37-year-old Michael Fritz of Ruskin, NE, was driving south on K-14 when he collided with an on-coming semi. Fritz was taken to a Jewell County Hospital where he died. The driver of the semi was not hurt.

Wichita State men's basketball coach Gregg Marshall doesn't want the same job at the University of Nebraska, according to the Omaha World Herald. Tuesday, the World-Herald reported that it had three sources stating Marshall turned down the NU job for $2 million a year. However, NU athletic director Tom Osborne released this statement about the position Wednesday. "Our head men's basketball position has not been offered to any individual at this point and will not be offered until we have fully completed the process.

Maddie Holub opened her junior season for the Fort Hays State softball team in style, leading the Tigers to two wins over Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 14) at Tiger Stadium. Fort Hays State won the first game 4-0 then had to score late to pull out a 6-5 win in the second game. Game 1: Fort Hays State 4, Nebraska-Kearney 0 Holub recorded a strike out on all three outs in the first inning and never looked back as the Tigers took game one 4-0. Fort Hays State produced all of their offense in the bottom of the third inning, getting one run on a Holub single that was misplayed by a Nebraska-Kearney outfielder and brought Taylor Nelson home to score.

It was a match worthy of the rivalry and it was a match that may be the biggest upset of the NCAA Tournament this year. The Kansas State Wildcats knocked off former Big 12 rival Nebraska in five sets to advance to the Regional Semifinals on Friday night in front of a packed house at the Nebraska Coliseum. The Cornhuskers entered the tournament as the No. 2 overall seed and No. 2 in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, marking the highest ranked team the Wildcats have ever defeated.

A Nebraska man dies in a crash Tuesday in Jewell County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 54-year-old Richard Foreman of Loomis, NE, was driving east on U.S. Highway 36 west of Mankato around 11:50 Tuesday morning. Investigators say his van drifted across the center line and collided with a truck pulling a sunflower field cultivator. Foreman died at the scene; he was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the truck was not hurt.
