Sedgwick County's Election Commissioner does not expect a high voter turnout for Tuesday's primary election. Speaking to county commissioners this morning, Tabitha Lehman said 2,800 advance ballots had been returned so far, and 725 people have voted in advance in-person. She says that's less than the same time in 2008, when the primary election had 15% voter turnout. Lehman told commissioners redistricting also meant a number of changes for Sedgwick County voters, so registration cards were sent out to remind people of their districts, where they will vote and of the new voter ID law. Electronic polling books will once again be used at many polling places in the Wichita area.

Sedgwick County voters got to hear from two people who want to be the next District Attorney. The Wichita Pachyderm Club hosted a forum with the two Republican candidates in the 18th Judicial District. Kevin O'Connor spent several years in the DA's office before leaving. He most recently helped the prosecution in the Adam Longoria case. O'Connor is running against Marc Bennett, a current prosecutor in the Sedgwick County DA's office. The race for City Commission in Salina has been a strange one. Aside from voter turn-out being extremely low, the race saw a record number of candidates looking to fill three open city commission spots. The primary election saw a record 17 different candidates on the ballot, following the primary that number was sliced down to nine candidates. Tuesday night Barb Shirley, Aaron Householter, and Kaye Crawford emerged from those nine candidates and earned a respective spot on the city commission.

Just 4.7% of registered voters turned out for Tuesday's primary election. That's compared with 2011 which has a low of 7.75%. Election officials knew the turnout was going to be low because there weren't a lot of heated races. They also say weather was a factor in keeping some voters home. Sedgwick County Election Commissioner Tabitha Lehman says the polling place at the Sedgwick Co. Zoo only had five voters through the entire day. She says it is a shame that more people didn't get out and vote, since the poll workers worked so hard to make sure polling places were open and clear of snow.

The primary's over, and we have almost three months until the general election. You would think that means we get a break from the political ads. But, that's not the case for at least one race: the District 4 Congressional Race. The day after the primary election, we found people would rather brave mother nature's heat, than political heat. "I was sick of all of it," said Sherrie Wandersee. "I mean, everybody's attacking everybody else. " "Personal attacks," said Marcia Downing, "are the things that bothered me the most.
