On Sunday Danica Patrick became the first woman to lead the Daytona 500 under green and the highest finishing woman (8th). "I'm honored.  But, again, these are things that just happen along the way," said Patrick. "I'm on the quest to be the best driver, run up front, get to Victory Lane.  These things happen and I'm proud, but they're not the ultimate goal. " Danica Patrick's success is good for the sport of NASCAR. Danica Patrick's success is also bad for the sport of NASCAR.

Clint Bowyer's chance at a NASCAR championship will have to wait another year. The Emporia native appeared to be headed to Homestead, with an outside shot at the title. But instead, an accident caused when Jeff Gordon intentionally wrecked the 15 coming to the white flag, lead to a 28th place finish for Bowyer and officially eliminated him from contention in the chase. "It's crazy, I didn't even need to pass him, I was plenty content riding behind him," said Bowyer. "But he slipped up and I got under him and here he comes back.

Sam Hornish stared down 5 1/2 lbs of food Tuesday at the Turn 2 Lounge inside the Hollywood Casino at the Kansas Speedway. The burger is called the "Beast", but is nothing compared to what Hornish has already tackled this season. It's been three months since he was forced into double duty due to AJ Allmendinger's suspension from NASCAR. Since then the former Indy Car champion has taken a tough situation and run with it. He has an average finish of 18th, including a top five finish at Watkins Glen.

So it's day two of the NASCAR Media Tour and while today's stops have included visits with Roush Fenway and Earnhardt Ganassi racing, maybe the biggest stop of the day was a trip to the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the unveiling of the new 2013 Ford Cup car. Behind the scene photos It has long been a complaint of many people that NASCAR has totally lost touch with it's roots when it comes to the car. This is, after all the National...

There are plenty of postseason awards in NASCAR, so I figure why not add my two cents worth.  But you know me, I can't just give out the "best driver" or "comeback awards", that is boring. So with out further ado, time to give out the "Backstretchies. " The Gomer Pyle Award "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise" This has to go to the points champion Brad Keselowski. Sure BK had his break through season in 2011, be honest how many among you had him as the champion. Keselowski was able to stare down a five time champ and takehome his first Sprint Cup. Not bad for a guy who has only been a full time cup driver for three seasons.

Saturday night NASCAR drops the green flag on its 2013 season and unveils a new generation of race car. It promises fans a return to the days where race cars were stock cars and looked like the cars we drive every day. Is there a driver in the garage area that is so quiet and yet so consistent? Kenseth is a beast, and yet he gets a lot less attention than lesser drivers. Kenseth had made every chase since it started in 2004, save one. And the chase was created because he won the Championship in 2003 with only win. Just shows how good a driver he is. No matter what the rules Kenseth has shown he is a player. 2013 will be a season of change for Matt, as he makes the move from Roush-Fenway Racing to Joe Gibbs Racing.
