Rain Showers

NEWS
By Chief Meteorologist Merril Teller | November 22, 2012
It will be mostly clear to partly cloudy and chilly tonight across Kansas. The cold front that has been moving across the state today means temperatures will be getting back to near normal for this time of year on Friday. The rest of the holiday weekend should be mostly sunny, dry and a little warmer. Another cold front will make it's way through the area on Monday bringing more clouds and a chance for a few rain showers in south central and southeast Kansas. Cool and dry conditions will return from Tuesday through Thursday.

After seeing near record highs Sunday afternoon, we should expect the warmer than normal weather to stick around through Wednesday. A weak cold front in Kansas overnight will not have much impact on our weather heading into Monday. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 30s northwest, but stay in the lower 60s for southcentral Kansas overnight. Clouds will redevelop over the area, but rainfall is not expected. Monday will still be rather mild with highs in the mid 70s north and west, but lower 80s will be common over southern Kansas.

Our Monday weather features a frigid Canadian air mass sitting right over our area making it a very cold start to our work and school week. Lows earlier this morning fell into the single-digits and low teens across the state. Wichita bottomed out at 12 degrees - the last time the metro was that cold was February 11th, nearly ten months ago ! Monday afternoon we will see sunshine but it will be one of the coldest days we've had in a long time.

Big weather changes plowed through Kansas early Thursday morning as a strong cold front moved through our state bringing areas of rain and ushering in much cooler temperatures along with gusty northerly winds. Scattered rain showers are likely for central and eastern Kansas Thursday while the west dries out by afternoon. Strong northerly winds will gust over 25 mph at times making afternoon highs in the 60s feel even cooler. Clouds will linger over the east while the west sees mostly sunny skies but we'll all be dry Friday and the cooler temps will stick around with highs ranging from the upper 60s to mid-70s.

Expect a different weather world this afternoon as chilly temps and a fresh stiff northerly breeze prevail.  Highs this afternoon will only be in the 30s for most of the state under a mostly cloudy sky. Expect northeast winds to diminish a bit later in the day. Temperatures will warm back-up as we head into our weekend and an approaching storm system will even bring a chance for light rain or sprinkles Saturday night and into early Sunday....

Another nice day for January.  Sunny skies and light winds will dominate the weather pictures across Kansas today as high pressure moves across the state.  Highs will reach the 40s in areas that still have snow on the ground, elsewhere expect upper 40s and lower 50s.  Mostly clear and cold tonight with temperatures dropping into the 20s by the time you head out the door for work on Monday. More wind and warmth are on tap to start the work week with highs in the 40s and low 50s.  The January "thaw" continues across the state through the upcoming week.

This afternoon's highs will soar back into the upper-40s and lower-50s for most of the state. We can expect light northerly winds across eastern Kansas and a light southerly breeze out west. Our weekend temps will be fairly mild too as a weak storm system moves in from the west. The weather-maker will sprint through our region bringing a chance for light rain or sprinkles Saturday night and into early Sunday. Temperatures Saturday night into Sunday morning should stay above freezing so no snow or ice are expected anywhere in Kansas.
