Rain Showers

NEWS
By Meteorologist Ross Janssen | March 17, 2013
After a cool weekend, look for temperatures to warm up for the start of the week with sunshine returning. A few showers will move through Kansas overnight with a cold front moving from west to east, and the winds will turn back to the north. Lows will be in the upper 20s northwest to mid 30s in south central Kansas. Monday looks windy with sunshine back in Kansas. Very low humidity will mean high fire danger for much of the state. Highs will range from 55-60. The wind will die down for Monday night with mostly clear skies.

A cold and cloudy St. Patty's Day across Kansas.  A few sprinkles, mixed with flurries and freezing drizzle across central and southwest Kansas this morning, however not enough reaching the ground to cause travel problems.  Maybe a few peeks of sun (especially in the west) by afternoon. Highs will reach the mid 50s in the far west, with 40s central and east. The wind will be turning to the southeast late in the day, and will be gusty across the west.  Towards evening there is a slight chance our next "weaker" weather system might produce a few sprinkles or showers during the early evening.

A cold front has moved through Kansas while you were sleeping and promises to bring much cooler temperatures to the state this weekend.  Mostly cloudy conditions with increasing northeast winds throughout the day.  A few sprinkles are possible across the northern half of the state. After record highs in the 80s yesterday, expect 40s and 50s most locations today.  Rain is forecast to develop tonight with some snow mixed in over the west and north (mainly along the I-70 corridor)

The cooler temperatures that settled over Kansas on Saturday will be around for the end of the weekend. Some sprinkles and flurries will be possible in the overnight and early Sunday, but widespread, measurable precipitation is not expected. Lows will dip down into the low to mid 30s central and east, but should fall into the upper 20s in the northwest. Winds are expected to stay out of the east/northeast through the night. Sunday will be cloudy to start, but some sunshine will peek through during the afternoon.

Record high temperatures will likely be tied or broken this afternoon across the Sunflower State as highs warm into the lower and middle 80s!  Those temperatures will be some 25 degrees above normal.  We'll have mostly sunny skies around the area too and it will be a bit breezy. A cold front will march across the area overnight, bringing a much cooler forecast this weekend.  Highs will only reach the 40s and 50s both days.  Some rain chances will be heading our way, starting in northern Kansas Saturday afternoon.  Rain showers should move into Wichita Saturday night and Sunday morning.  A little snow could mix in for northern Kansas, with any accumulation likely an inch or less.

Mostly clear and mild tonight then mostly sunny and very warm tomorrow. Record high temperatures are expected over much of western Kansas with some records also possible in central sections of the state. A cold front will push southward across the state Friday night bringing an end to this unseasonable warmth. Saturday will feel even chillier due to increasing clouds and gusty northeast winds. Look for scattered rain showers Saturday night into Sunday morning. After the rain ends, it will still be mostly cloudy and cooler Sunday afternoon.

The warming trend will continue through the second half of the week as afternoon highs will be well above normal. Skies will be mostly clear overnight with light winds around the area. Lows will stay in the mid and upper 30s. Thursday will see plenty of sunshine with just some high clouds passing through during the afternoon. Much of the state will see 70 degree weather, but upper 60s should be expected in northern Kansas. The wind will likely switch to the north late in the day, but wind speeds are expected to be under 25 mph. Friday will be the warmest day of the week with highs near 80. A cold front is coming in Friday night, so the weekend looks cooler with highs in the 50s. A chance for sprinkles and showers will show up in the forecast for Saturday night and early Sunday, but amounts should be very light.
