(GARDEN PLAIN, Kan) Less than three weeks ago, farmers were struggling. Dry, cracked soil made the outlook for unplanted crops, and planted crops, pretty bleak. "We're better off than we were two weeks ago because we've got the adequate moisture for now. " Wheat fields are beginning to turn color, and for farmer and State Representative Dan Kerschen, that's a relief. "We're looking at maybe average. It won't be a tremendous crop but it's definitely better than what we had started out with.

By Dave Roberts (ANTHONY, Kan.) The weather puts wheat cutting on hold. The harvest started over the weekend along the Oklahoma border, but a rainy week has made fields too wet to continue. On Danny Moore's farm, he's working on his equipment instead of on his farm. "You know trying to get things all fixed up best we can that it'll make it so that it'll run for the season and not have, a minimal amount of breakdowns as possible," he said. He says if the rain continues, the price of his wheat crop will start to drop.

As a storm system moves out of the southwest, clouds will increase and rain should develop heading into Friday afternoon. It will be dry overnight with lows in the 40s for much of the area. South winds will be gusty from time to time. Expect Friday morning to be dry, but during the afternoon, rain will develop over central and southwest Kansas and begin moving east. Temperatures on Friday will keep the precipitation as rain with highs in the low 60s. The wind will still be gusting from the south, but a cold front will sweep through the state Friday night, setting up big changes in temperatures for the weekend.

The Kansas City Royals' game in Detroit against the Tigers has been postponed by rain. The teams have scheduled a makeup game for Sept. 1 at 1:05 p.m. That was supposed to be an off day for both teams after playing three games against each other Aug. 29-31 in Detroit. Sunday's game was called a couple hours before the first pitch, with the steady rain at Comerica Park showing no signs of letting up. Detroit was set to try for a three-game sweep of the Royals and its eighth straight victory overall.

I registered for the Color Me Rad 5K in early March and pictured a warm, May morning decked out in a white t-shirt & shorts - a perfect blank slate to fill with color. Flash forward 6 weeks, boy was I wrong! With temperatures hovering around 40 degrees and light showers I donned a white turtleneck, undershirt & running pants. My running buddy Emily was smart and wore gloves. I refuse to wear them in May. The race begins with a pep rally; loud music and color cascade over participants.
