The Wichita Downtown Senior Center held more than 2,100 years of wisdom and experience Friday morning. 21 centenarians showed up for a meet and greet with Governor Sam Brownback. Seniors posed for photos with the Governor and shared their life stories. “They have a lot of wisdom to share with us,” said Governor Brownback. The men and women at Friday's gathering have survived seven wars, lived through the great depression and elected 17 men into the office of the president of the United States. They witnessed the first man walk on the moon and watched the iron curtain fall.

Initially intended for her few dozen Twitter followers, Emma Sullivan's comment about Governor Sam Brownback has become the tweet heard 'round the world. "I tweeted that I just made mean comments to Governor Brownback and told him he sucked in person," Sullivan says. The 18-year-old Shawnee Mission East senior sent that tweet from her phone while she and her classmates were listening to the governor speak during their field trip to the Capitol. A Brownback aide discovered the tweet, contacted a school official, and then Sullivan's school principal asked her to write the governor and apology. The story has a lot of people talking.

Eugene Martinez is one of more than 230 employees who won't have a job come May 25. "I was hoping to retire there. Nine more years before I reached retirement age,” Martinez said. Beef Products Incorporated is closing three of its processing plants. One of them is in Finney County, just outside Garden City. "All we heard was misinformation and lies. It brought down a great company,” Martinez said. In a statement, BPI blames "unfounded and misguided attacks" on its product called "lean, finely textured beef.

A soldier from the Kansas town of Oakley has died while serving in Afghanistan. 33-year-old Sergeant First Class Trenton L. Rhea died in Kandahar on May 15. According to a Department of Defense report, Rhea drowned while trying to cross a body of water during combat operations. He was assigned to the 603rd Military Police Copmany, 530th Military Police Battalion, 300th Military Police Brigade, 200th Military Police Command out of Belton, Missouri. Kansas Governor Sam Brownback released the following statement regarding SFC Rhea's death: “On behalf of the citizens of Kansas, Lt. Governor Colyer and I offer our condolences to Sgt. 1st Class Rhea's family and friends for their loss,” said Governor Brownback.

The Sedgwick County Republican Caucus is underway at Century II. Governor Sam Brownback is among those attending. He says it may be the largest Republican gathering in Kansas history. Speeches go on for about an hour followed by voting. Rick Santorum is expected to have a strong showing across the state.
