A Scott City man is sentenced to more than five years in prison for electronic solicitation. The Kansas Attorney General's office says 26-year-old Nicholas Anderson was sentenced to 61 months in prison on two charges. The sentence will run concurrently. Anderson pleaded guilty to electronic solicitation in July. The AG's office says the charges stem from an investigation by both the KBI and the Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center.

A 58-year-old Wakeeny man is dead after a two-vehicle accident in Scott County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says Timothy Smith was westbound on K-96 west of Scott City when his semi-trailer truck was hit by a northbound truck at the intersection of Indian Road. Allen's truck landed in the ditch and caught fire.  The driver of the other truck was injured when his truck landed on its top. The crash happened at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Kansas Attorney Genernal's office files charges against a Scott City woman. It says she abused her infant son, which ultimately led to his death. Marilyn Hoffman, 26, heard the charges against her on Wednesday in the Scott County district Court. Xavier Hoffman was transported to a Wichita hospital on Saturday. His mother was arrested on Sunday for abuse. The three-month-old died from his injuries on Tuesday. Hoffman remains in the Scott County Jail.

A Scott City teen dies after crashing his pick-up Monday night in Scott County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 16-year-old Timothy Dirks was driving on County Road 270 around 9:30 Monday night when he drove his pick-up into a ditch near Pence Road. The KHP says Dirks went back on the road in a sideways slide, and his pick-up rolled. Dirks was thrown from the pick-up. He was taken to Scott County Hospital, then transferred to Hays Medical Center where he died. Investigators say he was not wearing a seat belt.

The Scott City Beavers put down their pencils and picked up signs to cheer on former student Ron Baker as he plays in the national spotlight. "After he won that game against Gonzaga, I was like wow he just beat the number one team in the nation. I kind of teared up a little bit. I'm happy for him and can't wait to watch him tonight," said sophomore basketball player Trey O'Neil. The people of Scott City will never forget the day Ron sank a buzzer beater to win the state championship.

A Scott City family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a Wichita company and two homeowners.  Attorneys for Jeff Murphy and his ex-wife filed the suit in Sedgwick County Court on Wednesday. Twenty-eight yr. old Jackie Coberly, her four yr. old son Brandon and the Murphy's two daughters Terra and Cassie all died in a house fire back in March. The lawsuit claims a Wichita company, Windsor Place At Home, did not provide proper care to Coberly.  Coberly was a quadriplegic and required around-the-clock care.

Kansas has the reputation of being flat, but if you take some time to explore you'll find that's not the case at all. In western Kansas there are awesome rock formations. They are sediment left behind from the sea that covered the state millions of years ago. For this Wonder of Kansas contestant, two locations are grouped together. The first is Castle Rock, which is 17 miles south of Quinter. It took George and I three and a half hours to get there from Wichita. If you get off at the Quinter exit on I-70, head south.

The state of Kansas has no shortage of great moments of basketball greatness, especially in the NCAA Tournament. Neither does Scott City. And now they can add their former champion Ron Baker to the list of greatness on the court. The redshirt freshman for Wichita State has emerged under the spotlight of their win over Gonzaga, sending them to the Sweet 16. He may not love the spotlight, but the spotlight loves him. "I don't mind the spotlight but you just have to know you have to produce," Baker said.

A small airplane crashes in a field near Topeka, killing four people. Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig says Richard and Amy Spencer and their two children, 7-year-old Chase and 5-year-old Ansley are the victims. The Federal Aviation Administration said the six-seat Beechcraft was headed to Phillip Billard Airport from Scott City when it may have had engine trouble. The plan went down Friday morning about three miles northeast of the capital city. Eyewitness News contacted several residents in Scott City Friday evening.  Superintendent Don Wells spoke with us via phone.

For What it's Worth--- Any time I step on a plane for Southern California I'm always amazed at the wide array of plastic surgery. I'm convinced Californians go to their doctor like the rest of us go to the grocery. That so much of it is bad doesn't seem to deter them in the slightest, it makes you wonder what they see when they look in the mirror. California dreaming--- The last time that the Shockers played in California was a couple of years ago when they lost at San Diego State.

Carl Hall notched a double-double for Wichita State on Saturday, scoring 17 points and pulling 13 rebounds in a 71-57 victory over North Carolina Central in the season opener for both squads. Ron Baker, a red-shirt freshman from Scott City, Kan., led the Shockers with 18 points including a 4 for 7 effort from behind the arc. Cleanthony Early scored 10 points and had five rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench. After Stanton Kidd hit a jump shot with 10:44 remaining in the first half to bring North Carolina Central within a point at 12-11, Wichita State answered back with a 24-7 run to take a 36-18 lead at half time.

Three people die after a weekend crash in Finney County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the collision happened a little after 9:15 Friday night on U.S. Highway 83 about five-and-a-half miles north of the junction with U.S. Highway 50. Investigators say 21-year-old Phillip Cook was driving south on U.S. 83 when he went left of center and struck an on-coming car head-on. Cook's vehicle rolled. He was taken to a hospital where he died. Cook was from Littlefield, Texas. Two of the three people riding in the other car were killed.

Lake Scott is named as having one of U.S.A. Today 's 51 great beaches. According to the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, Scott State Park near Scott City was named as having the best beach in Kansas by the newspaper. U.S.A. Today asked local experts to pick their favorite beach in each state and Washington D.C. The publication notes the lake's craggy cliffs and spring-fed lake, and its "pleasant swimming beach with a playground, concession stand," and the park's hunting opportunities, nature trails and historic sites.
