The Kansas Department of Transportation's 511 Map Web site available at www.kandrive.org or http://511.ksdot.org will be temporarily unavailable due to technical upgrades on Thursday, May 5, from approximately 8 a.m. until noon. The site provides road conditions, road work activity information, camera and message sign views. KDOT will restore public access as quickly as possible and apologizes for any inconvenience this causes the traveling public. While the site is down, travelers can get current road condition, road work activity and travel weather information by calling 5-1-1 from anywhere in Kansas or 1-866-511-KDOT (5368)

You can't miss it, whether you're driving by, or for some, looking out your back door. "The casino is right across the street from our back yard. We back up to Hwy 81 and the casino will back up to Hwy 81. " Ron and Netta Swihart fought the casino going in, and were less than thrilled to see proof that it's really happening. "We knew this was a long time coming but it was very disappointing to us. " Dirt work started at the site, near the Mulvane exit on the Turnpike, a couple weeks ago. And for a lot of people who don't live across the street, it's what they've been waiting years to see. Mulvane City Administrator Kent Hixson tells Eyewitness News, "There is a level of excitement but there's also a level of relief.

Could the city strike it rich at 2nd and McLean?  A group has approached city officials about the possibility of oil at the site.  The land is city owned and is the future site of a new library. Mayor Carl Brewer says the group has shown the city older maps of the spot that shows where the oil may be. at.  Oil has been found in Wichita before.   The group is scheduling meetings with the city manager to discuss how to move forward.

A memorial has been placed at the site where a boy died following an accident in southwest Wichita. The accident happened 4:45 Friday afternoon near the intersection of Skinner & Silver. Investigators say the 15-year-old driver was driving on a dirt road when he lost control and hit a curb. The van then rolled and an 11-year-old boy was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other passengers, all 15-years-old, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Work is already beginning on the site that will be the permanent home of the 3i agriculture trade show. The Dodge City Expo Center will be located at the corner of U.S. Highway 283 and the U.S. 56/400 bypass. The center will feature a large indoor exhibit space, as well as one million square feet of outdoor exhibit space. Plans for the center were announced over the summer, when the 3i Show announced that it would permanently locate in Dodge City. For the past six decades the show had alternated between Great Bend and Garden City.

A trail camera in Stafford County catches a rare site, a mountain lion. The image was captured by one of Kurt Keesling's cameras on October 31st just after 4am east of St. John. He checked the camera a couple of weeks later and found the animal. Keesling tells Eyewitness News that a wildlife biologist came out to the site and confirmed that it was a mountain lion. He says he has been putting up these trail cameras for about five years and has never captured anything like this before.

If you thought you couldn't log onto the Sedgwick County website Thursday morning - you were right. The county tells us, its domain expired. Miscommunication between the company that provides the domain and the county led to the site being down for two hours. We're told it may have seemed longer, depending on what network or server people used to access the site. The site is now back up, and the new domain is now locked in for nine years.

The Dodge City Sanitation Division will pick-up trees the week of Monday, January 10th through January 14th. Trees should be placed by the curb during a customer's regular trash day. Having grown up in the area, I've always known about the Wichita State Plane Crash. I knew it happened in the past, but I couldn't tell you when. I knew it happened on the football team's trip to Utah, but I didn't know where the actual crash site was located. I'd heard an occasional story from my uncle, who was a freshman on the team. At that time, freshmen were not allowed to play varsity, so Uncle Al played on the freshman team, and didn't travel with the varsity.

Players for K-State and Oregon spent their New Year's Eve talking to the press. Monday was Media Day at the Fiesta Bowl. Players and coaches answered questions and joked with each other in a ballroom at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn in Scottsdale (about 30 minutes from the site of Thursday's game). Greg Brenneman has lived on a farm his whole life. "It is a business, but it's still a way of life and I guess that's what we really relish--being out here in the rural community, enjoying that way of life," Brenneman said. As a farmer, he understands the importance of loans to his business. "Your input costs are high," Brenneman said. "Just about everyone has to borrow some type of money. " Brenneman says that it's expensive equipment, like self-propelled sprayers and combines, that make loans very important to farmers.

Flowers make beautiful gifts. But ordering online can be pretty unpleasant, Consumer Reports discovered. It surveyed 28,000 of its subscribers about their experiences shopping at the 52 largest retail websites. Online florists 1-800-Flowers and FTD rated near the bottom. They had low marks for value, and there were lots of complaints about high shipping charges and customers having to wait longer than expected. Ticketmaster doesn't have a lot to cheer about either.

A man was rushed to the hospital after being shocked on the job. The shocking happened Monday afternoon in the 700 block of South Washington. Police say the man was working on a sign when he was shocked.  He went to the hospital with non-lilfe threatening injuries.

The City of Wichita and The Arts Council today announced the launch of WeMakeArtHappen.com, a website that is giving Wichitans a new way to support local arts projects. Residents are encouraged to visit the site, find art projects that speak to them and become collaborators by making small gifts online. WeMakeArtHappen.com lists projects by area nonprofit arts organizations and individual artists that need help getting off the ground. Such a platform allows project coordinators to reach out to a greater pool of funders whose individuals gifts - which can be as small as $5 - can add up to fund an entire project.     Projects will be listed on WeMakeArtHappen.com on average for 30 days.

Her husband and uncle are ready to go Hog wild at the Cotton Bowl next month.  But Melissa Houston has had some trouble securing tickets for them to see their beloved sixth-ranked Arkansas football team play #8 Kansas State in Arlington, Texas. "He was just ecstatic and now we had to call and say well, there's a problem," said Houston.  The problem was the tickets Houston thought she had purchased through the official Cotton Bowl Ticket Exchange had apparently been given to someone else.  Shortly after making the purchase, Houston received an email from Ticket Exchange that read: We are currently in communication with the seller and verifying the availability of the tickets in your order.

They expect to help more than 13-thousand people this year. Applications opened Monday for this year's Operation Holiday run by Inter-Faith Ministries. The charity helps make food, and other items available to those in need during the holiday season. Operation Holiday leaders say it needs about $350,000 in cash to purchase food vouchers. It also needs non-perishable food items. Director Laveta Noble tells us,"We also need coats, especially childrens' sizes, there's never enough coats and we're looking for blankets this year.
