Firefighters respond to a house fire in Valley Center Saturday morning. It broke out around 8am in the 39-hundred block of West 89th St. North. When crews arrived they found fire coming out of the roof. The fire was in the attic space. Two people were home at the time of the fire, they were able to get out okay. A law enforcement officer at the scene did suffer from smoke inhalation. Damage is estimated at around $50,000. Authorities say the majority of the damage was from water damage.

Investigators say three children playing with a lighter started a fire that led to a 2-year-old going to the hospital with smoke inhalation. Crews were called to the home on north Pershing around 12:15 Friday morning. While crews were on their way, they got the report that a person was trapped in the home. Investigators say the fire started in the home's back bedroom where four, five and seven-year-old children were playing. Fire officials say they were playing with a lighter.

Wichita firefighters believe an electrical malfunction is to blame for a house fire that left one woman hospitalized. Crews were called to the 9900 block of Briarwood, which is near 13th and Maize, around 5:30 Monday morning. When crews got there, they found a woman who was having trouble breathing because of smoke inhalation.  She was taken to St. Francis in serious condition. She told crews that her smoke detector went off and woke her up.  She heard some popping sounds and immediately got out of the house.  She was the only person here.

Things are back to normal now at the Sedgwick County jail after a small fire. County officials tell Eyewitness news that temporary repairs were completed to the power distribution facility before noon on Thursday. A small fire broke out in the Sedgwick County Detention facility Wednesday morning. The sheriff's office says, an external electrical transformer failed and may have caused an electrical surge inside the building. In a press release, the sheriff's office writes that deputies immediately discovered and managed to put out a very small fire in the ceiling, where power runs through the building.

Dry and windy conditions kept firefighters busy Thursday afternoon as they battled a large grass fire in Wilson County. Click Here for Damage Photos Several outbuildings were destroyed in the area, but no homes were damaged. There are no reports of serious injuries, but two firefighters were treated briefly for smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion. The fire burned rought three square miles of farm land along Highway 400 south of Fredonia.

A family pet has died after a fire broke out in a Valley Center home. Crews were called to the scene in the 5800 block of east 109th North around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters found thick smoke and flames showing from the mobile home upon arrival. Neighbors said two people have been living in the home, but they were not home at the time of the fire.  Click here to see photos of the fire Authorities said one dog died from smoke inhalation. Other dogs and puppies were also home at the time, but are expected to be okay.

By Chris Durden and Megan Strader (WICHITA, Kan.) An apartment fire in southeast Wichita leaves two people hurt, one seriously. The fire started around eight o'clock Sunday morning at the Huntington Place Apartments in the 3900 block of S. Seneca. Map - Location of the Fire Crews from Wichita, Sedgwick County and McConnell Air Force Base helped fight the flames. "It's pretty horrific to stand back and watch the whole place on fire .The flames were everywhere, I thought it was going to take the whole building," described Tabitha Clarke.

Update: An Augusta family is forced to flee their home after it catches fire. It happened shortly after 2:00pm Sunday, in the 1900 block of Carter Avenue. By the time firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were coming from the attic and the rear of the home.  Crews were able to contain the damage to the back of the home and the attic. It is unknown if the home was a total loss.  A family was home when the fire broke out.  One adult was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

A woman is taken to the hospital in critical condition after a fire breaks out at her home Sunday afternoon. It happened just after 1 o'clock in the 400 block of south Laura. When crews arrived on the scene they found fire showing from the south side of the house. When firefighters got inside they found heavy fire coming from one room but it also extended up into the second floor and attic. The fire is under investigation. Damage is estimated at $45,000. There were a few cats in the house as well.

One person is in critical condition after Wichita firefighters pull her from a burning house. Sunday, contractors board up windows that flames blew out. And what the fire destroyed on the inside, now sits on the front lawn. Sunday morning, neighbors in the 9500 block of Britton called 911 after seeing smoke. By the time firefighters arrived, homeowner Gary Kral was outside throwing rocks at an upstairs window. His wife was still inside. The victim's husband tells us he had gone out for a short bike ride and his wife was still sleeping, he returned to find the front of his house in flames.
