Students from the Conway Springs High School are helping clean up -- after Saturday's tornado outbreak. The school says it normally does a community clean day this time of year. Normal tasks include painting homes or cleaning up yards. But after multiple tornadoes touched down in Sumner County -- the school thought this farm could really use help.     Help that is much appreciated, says land owner Chris Vancuren,  "They're doing a great job. We can't thank them enough.

Road crews across the state spent Tuesday getting ready for the storm.  But not every one Eyewitness News talked with is sure what to expect.  It's been more like spring than winter the last few days.  And Tuesday's sunshine is just one more reason many Wichitans say they'll believe this storm is coming when they can see it.  That said, they're still taking precautions. "Just bringing the girls to the park.  It's a nice day.  It's not that cold," said Brianda Cedillo, who was enjoying the sunshine Tuesday afternoon at Riverside Park.

It was a long day for AAA tow truck driver Jon Burgette, going from one wreck to the next.  Kansas drivers are out of practice driving in snow and ice. "One minute it's dry, one minute it's wet.  You don't have much time to prepare for it," Burgette says.  "The best thing you can do is slow down. " Otherwise, your trip comes to a screeching halt.  Hopefully you're not injured as you wait for help and are kicking yourself for not being more careful. "Speed is a factor when it comes to snow and ice," Burgette says.

As the April 14th storm took aim on the Wichita area, Teresa Burks and her family took cover.  The tornado missed their house, but some of their neighbors near Kellogg and Greenwich were not so lucky.  Now, three months later, some places are still a mess--a dangerous mess according to Burks. "It's a danger for the kids in the neighborhood to be around and playing," Burks says.  "It also provides habitat for wild and stray animals. " There's an upside down mobile home nearby and another house missing the roof and most the walls.

The power is finally back on for almost everybody in Sedgwick County.  It took crews as far away as Illinois to restore all of the damage.  The storm knocked out power to thousands and many have been sweating it out until now. "I about drank all of the water out of there," said Tom McDonough.  That's not surprising since the inside of his home is almost as hot as outside.  "It's been a long couple of days," he said.  He lost power during...

(WICHITA, Kan.) It was a rush to hit the road Friday afternoon, as basketball fans tried to beat the winter weather to Oklahoma. Just before four on Friday, Mike and Betsy Sweeney watched a bit more basketball from their living room. The Wildcat fans were in Oklahoma City to see Thursday's game in person. Then back in Wichita for work Friday, and then back down Friday afternoon. Originally, the Sweeneys thought they would head down Saturday morning. Then they looked at the forecast.

A nest full of baby birds is safe after Wednesday afternoon's thunderstorms. Eyewitness News viewer Vickie Haun says her daughter Randi took down one of her porch plants as the storms approached. When she did, she found the nest inside. Randi brought the plant, nest and all, inside so it wouldn't be destroyed by hail. Careful not to touch the nest or the hatchlings, Randi put the plant back where it was after the storm moved through.

More than 8 inches of snow fell across northwest Kansas late Monday into Tuesday, setting new records with the late spring storm. The weather forced officials to close I-70 from Goodland to the Colorado border overnight due to ice and blowing snow. The morning commute was slick and slow, but no major accidents have been reported. Streets around Goodland were mostly clear by the afternoon. The April 14 tornado treated Spirit AeroSystems' buildings like they were made of aluminum foil. Layers were peeled-off and tossed all over the plant. The storm debris ended-up at CDR North. "Right after the storm, there were lines and we were backed-up and we were trying to get everybody through as quickly as possible," Cornejo and Sons' Morgan Koon said. Koon says right after the storm, trucks were bringing-in hundreds of tons of trash a day.  But things have slowed-down now.  "I think on average what we've been seeing is at least an increase of 50 tons a day," Koon said.
