The latest storm system to bring snow to southern Kansas will be moving away overnight and much of the state will see a milder day on Wednesday. Lows will drop into the teens for the northwest with mid 20s around south central Kansas. The winds will be out of the northwest and under 15 mph. Mostly sunny skies return for Wednesday with highs in the low to mid 50s. The warmest readings will be across the west. The wind will pick up from the northwest, and could gust as high as 25 mph during the afternoon.

A quiet weather pattern across the central plains and Kansas will lead to a "super" weekend. Sunshine will dominate today and winds should remain light. This afternoon will bring a few passing clouds and afternoon highs ranging from the mid-40s to near 50 in western Kansas to around 40 degrees around Wichita. Snow covered areas around Concordia and north-central Kansas will only see chilly highs in the mid-30s. Winds will be out of the south and will be gusty at times this afternoon. Warmer temps are moving back into our area this weekend as temperatures will be soaring into the 50s along lots of sunshine and lighter winds. Kansas will remain in a dry spot on the weather map so no rain or snow is expected this weekend through most of next week.

Early morning temperatures dipped down into the teens for many Monday with some single-digits found near the Nebraska state line under mostly clear skies. Martin Luther King Day will bring us a mostly sunny sky with much colder temperatures over central and eastern Kansas where highs will only reach the mid-30s by afternoon. Western Kansas will be a bit warmer with highs expected to top out the mid-40s with a southerly wind at less than 20 mph through the afternoon.

A cooler day is on tap with gusty north winds developing in the west during the afternoon. Wind gusts to 45 m.p.h. are possible in northwest Kansas as a cold front moves through the region. Highs will reach the 40s and lower 50s. Tonight another surge of even colder air is expected from the north. Temperatures will rapidly drop into the 20s and 30s after sunset and into the teens by early morning. A cold Arctic air mass will encompass most of the Great Lakes and Midwest on Monday with the western edge of this bitter cold air influencing temperatures across central and eastern Kansas. Afternoon highs will range from the upper 20s in Topeka and Kansas City, to the middle 40s in southwest Kansas.
