Royals catcher Manny Pina will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and could miss the rest of spring training. Pina hurt the knee Wednesday when he twisted to catch a foul tip in batting practice. Manager Ned Yost said Thursday that Pina would return to Kansas City, where surgery will be performed. The 24-year-old from Venezuela was competing with Brayan Pena to be the backup to starting catcher Salvador Perez. Pina made his big league debut last season, hitting .214 over the course of four games in August.

A young Wichita man with a rare skin disorder has to wait longer before his bone marrow transplant. Kyle Hick's disorder, called Epidermolysis Bullosa, is very painful. It covers him with blisters and forces him to live wrapped in bandages. Friends, family and the community worked to raise money for the transplant which was schedule to happen this month. Now we learn the transplant won't happen until June. Kyle wrote on his blog that he's coming home to Wichita for two weeks.

Kansas guard Tyshawn Taylor had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee Sunday and could be out up to three weeks. Taylor hurt the knee early last week but played through the injury in the 13th-ranked Jayhawks' 78-67 victory over No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday. After the game, coach Bill Self disclosed the torn meniscus and said Taylor also had a sprained MCL in the same knee. "I spoke with the doctors and it went as well as expected," Self said Sunday. "He will be up and around tomorrow morning and will be back in the shortest time possible.

A Wichita police officer undergoes surgery after his patrol car is t-boned and catches fire. He and his partner were headed to help another officer with a chase Saturday when the suspect ran his car right into them. The crash happened at 26th and Grove. One of the officers had surgery on his leg and will be off work for the next three months. The other is expected to return to work this week. The suspect was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on two counts of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer and multiple traffic offenses.

The Mets say starter Mike Pelfrey will likely have reconstructive elbow surgery that will sideline him until next year. Pelfrey has a partially torn ligament in his pitching elbow. He was put on the disabled list Tuesday when an MRI showed swelling in the joint. The exam results were sent to orthopedist Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion. After Andrews consulted with the Mets on Thursday, it was decided that Pelfrey would see the doctor, known for ligament-replacement operations.

Kansas City Royals closer Joakim Soria will undergo reconstructive elbow surgery and will miss the season. The surgery is scheduled for April 3. Soria made the decision Friday after being examined by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. for a third opinion. He had already been diagnosed with right elbow ligament damage by the Royals physicians and Dr. Lewis Yocum, who will perform the surgery in Los Angeles. Soria left the game Sunday against Cleveland with pain in his elbow.

After 32 years Anthony Stokley is used to the looks he gets in public. “It's hard to see your kid go through it,” his mom Rebecca Buhler said. Anthony was born with neurofibromatosis. There are two types and he has them both, which is extremely rare. Click here for info on neurofibromatosis The disease causes tumors, hundreds of them, to grow all over Anthony's body. His face is most affected. “Two days ago he was at the E.R. The tumor gets so heavy it splits his face open,” Rebecca said.
