Kansas held 15 point leads in both halves at Texas, but had to hold on to beat the Longhorns last weekend - prompting Head Coach Bill Self to call the win 'our biggest of the season'. Huh? Clearly Self wanted to see how his team would handle a little adversity, especially in such a tough place to win.  He had to have pleased with the results.  The 'Hawks defended well in the clutch and got good leadership from their stars, as both Tyshawn Taylor and Thomas Robinson made big plays when their team needed it.  Kansas is a basketball team that continues to improve, who knows that kind of residuals they'll draw from their ninth straight win last weekend.

In Saturdays NCAA tournament opener with Texas A&M, the Wichita Lady Shockers went from leading 20-19 to trailing 35-22. It was a hole they could not recover from. "Basketball is a game of momentum," said senior Chynna Turner. "We feed off our defense. A&M went on a run and we weren't stopping them. " The Lady Shox started strong, neutralizing the Aggies decided height advantage by getting the A&M biggs in foul trouble.

Texas A&M officials have formally told the Big 12 they are considering leaving the conference and want to know the process if they do. Texas A&M has expressed interest in joining the Southeastern Conference. Texas A&M President Bowen Loftin's letter to conference Commissioner Dan Beebe says it should not be considered notice that the Aggies have decided to leave. He says the school faces a decision that will shape its future for the next 100 years. If Texas A&M leaves the Big 12, the move could create a shake-up across college sports.

The Southeastern Conference says Texas A&M is set to be join the league next year. The SEC announced Sunday that the move will be effective next July, and says Texas A&M will participate in all sports during the 2012-13 academic year. That gives the SEC 13 members and its first addition since South Carolina and Arkansas in 1992. The Aggies' defection from the Big 12 had been held up with threatened legal action from Baylor and other schools. The statement released by the SEC did not mention that situation, and spokesman Charles Bloom did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Texas A&M can't reach the goals it had at the beginning of the season. Texas A&M has lost its last three and is one win shy of qualifying for a bowl with two games remaining heading into Saturday's matchup with Kansas. The Aggies believe that the only way to salvage anything positive from this season will be to beat the Jayhawks this week and knock off archrival Texas next Thursday. But for a team that was expected to contend for a Big 12 conference title and possible even a national championship in the preseason, even the thought of finishing the season that way rings hollow.

Police say at least one law enforcement officer and one civilian have been killed in a shooting near Texas A&M University's campus.     Assistant Chief Scott McCollum says the gunman also was shot Monday before being taken into custody. McCollum say the officer killed was a constable with Brazos County. A county employee says the shooting took place during an eviction. A College Station police officer and another woman also also  injured in the shooting. The university issued an alert on its website just before 12:30 p.m. Monday warning of an active shooter near the campus football stadium, Kyle Field.

Andrew Collazo hit a game-ending homer into the left-field bleachers with two outs in the 10th inning Sunday, lifting Texas A&M to a 10-9 victory over Missouri and its second straight Big 12 tournament title. Collazo pumped his fist as he rounded the bases following his first home run of the season and was mobbed as he jumped onto home plate with the winning run. Collazo's throwing error had opened the door for Missouri to take a 9-8 lead in the ninth inning, but the Aggies (42-18)

MANHATTAN, Kan. -   Following Kansas State's thrilling four-overtime victory over Texas A&M on Saturday, quarterback Collin Klein and place kicker Anthony Cantele were named the Big 12 Players of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Klein earned Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career, while Cantele was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the third time in his career and the second time this season. Additionally, Klein was named to the Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll, which recognizes versatility in single-game performances, and a Manning Award Star of the Week.

Johnny Manziel and No. 15 Texas A&M shook-up the national championship race by beating No. 1 Alabama 29-23 on Saturday. The Aggies (8-2, 5-2 Southeastern Conference) also might have ended the league's run of BCS titles at six years. The Crimson Tide (9-1, 6-1) didn't go quietly. AJ McCarron nearly pulled off a second straight scintillating comeback. He threw one touchdown pass and motored the ball downfield before Deshazor Everett stepped in front of his fourth-down pass at the goal line with 1:36 left.

Texas A&M's emergency notification system says there is no danger and people should resume normal activity on campus. University spokesman Lane Stephenson had said a campus bus driver was on his route around four o'clock Thursday afternoon when he reported seeing a person carrying a weapon, possibly a rifle, near the student union. About 90 minutes later, A&M officials determined that the person was actually someone carrying a replica weapon. Police searched the 5,200 acre campus.

They are 24-9. They are the SEC tournament champs. They are the 2011 National Champs. And Saturday afternoon the Texas A&M Aggies are the Wichita State Lady Shockers opening round opponent in the team's first NCAA Tournament. "It's a great program, has a great coaching staff and we are excited about this opportunity to compete with the best in the nation," said Lady Shockers head coach Jody Adams. The key match-ups will be in the post. The Aggies will win the size battle, but that doesn't mean WSU will just throw in the towel.

On Sunday, the Wichita State women's basketball team made history by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, and earning the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Monday, the team found out where they will play in the first round. The team will travel to College Station, TX as a 14 seed. They'll play Texas A& M the number 3 seed. Shamar Acuay's three-point play with 1:55 remaining powered the Newman men's basketball team to a 59-58 win at Texas A&M International on Thursday (Feb. 7). The go ahead points gave the Jets a 59-56 advantage, and the defense held strong for the 59-58 win. The Jets upped their record to 17-3 and 7-2 in the Heartland Conference.   After the Acuay basket, TAMIU pulled to within one point at 59-58 on a layup from Matthew Culliver, Jr. at the 1:40 mark. A Jet turnover gave the Dustdevils the ball, but point guard Bobby Wesley stole the ball to put NU in possession with 52 seconds left.

The Big 12's attention is on Kansas State's national championship dreams, yet there's plenty left to be decided in the conference over the final weeks. Six teams are bowl eligible, with Iowa State, West Virginia and Baylor still battling for chances to fill out the league's bowl slots. Kansas State (10-0, 7-0 Big 12) can clinch at least a share of its first conference championship since 2003 with a win Saturday night at Baylor. The Wildcats moved into the top spot in the Bowl Championship Series rankings after Alabama lost to Texas A&M. No. 13 Oklahoma and No. 18 Texas remain alive for a possible BCS bowl.

Texas A&M beat Oklahoma 62-53 on Wednesday night meaning the Aggies will advance to face top-seeded Kansas in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday. The Kansas Jayhawks won their 8th straight regular-season Big 12 championship this year and are the 3rd ranked team in the country.  The Jayhawks will play the Aggies around 2 pm on Thursday afternoon at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. The Kansas State Wildcats will play Baylor in their first game of the conference tournament.  That game will be the first of the day on Thursday and will tip at 11:30 am.
